Basement Water Damage Basement Water Proofing Helps Prevent Water Damage in Marlborough Homes

Water Seepage Results in Damages to Many Basements and Crawl Spaces

Constant drips and puddles are okay for kids playing outside, but not when they are playing in the basement. Whether it is a finished room or just a considerable crawl space, it needs to be safe and dry for the residents and property security.

A wet basement water damage in your Marlborough home may start as a nuisance, but it can become a source of mold and ruined belongings. If the room is not cleaned and dried, the growth can result in damage to property and, eventually, the structure itself. At SERVPRO, we understand how much damage water and mold can cause to a home and how to stop it.

For significant amounts of standing water, we bring portable pumps powerful enough to force water up the stairs and outside the home. When there is only a tiny amount of water, technicians draw it out using water extraction wands and even mops. These devices work well on concrete, wood floors, and carpets.

As we remove the water, SERVPRO technicians start reducing the humidity. If water has been in the basement for an extended period, humidity levels are higher than normal. To lower them, we install dehumidifiers to draw moisture out of the air at a rate of up to 25 gallons per day and commercial-grade space heaters to raise the temperature enough to help the dehumidifiers work more efficiently.

Once the basement is dry, we check for hidden leaks and cracks. If the water source is a leaking pipe, we can repair or replace it in less than a day. If there are cracks in the walls, we clean them and then fill them in using hydraulic cement. This adhesive is an excellent barrier against water. When it is dry, we cover the area and recommend covering all basement walls with a layer of masonry cement. This second type of cement is a superb seal to prevent leaks and seepage from the outside.

A wet basement is not the worst problem in your home, but you should resolve it as soon as possible. If you have it as a recurring situation, contact SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord to help. Call us at (978) 486-9868 to schedule an initial inspection today.
