Marlborough Properties, Freezing Pipes, and SERVPRO Advice
Frozen Pipes in Marlborough? Call SERVPRO for Water Loss and Repair
Protecting Plumbing in Your Marlborough Home from Freezing
With the winter season already upon the Marlborough area, many homeowners still do not have the adequate insulation and protection necessary for the plumbing network in their house. By leaving vulnerable points, your plumbing becomes susceptible to instances of freezing. This phenomenon can overly stress the pipes and joints throughout the network, causing fractures, breaks, and bursts.
While many homeowners have to contend with water damage from frozen pipes in their Marlborough home year after year, there are precautionary measures that can get taken to prevent this occurrence. A convenient method for protecting your property and its plumbing is through a thorough inspection of the lines for vulnerabilities to elemental influence. For example, ensuring that exposed pipe in the basement of your home is appropriately coated with insulation material to keep it above the freezing threshold at all times.
Another precautionary measure that you can take to prevent your need for restoration services that our SERVPRO professionals can provide is to allow slow water flow throughout extreme temperature drops. When the temperatures during the day or evening fall far below the freezing mark, allowing a faucet or two to persistently drip can cause enough water flow to the fixtures to prevent a frozen expansion that bursts pipes.
Our SERVPRO professionals are ready for whatever situation threatens your property by offering efficient extraction strategies and thorough drying efforts. We can locate the source of the damage with our leak detection equipment and remove the immediate drywall or material in front of this point to gain access for repairs to the damaged pipe. Our moisture detection tools can help identify lingering moisture during the drying phase to ensure that no dampness gets permitted to affect your property, its structural elements, or the occupants of the house. This process helps to prevent the growth of mold, especially inside wall cavities.
While you might not think of freezing temperatures as a dire threat to your home, uninsulated or poorly insulated pipes in your plumbing system could fall victim to rapid expansion that causes bursts. No matter how a water emergency happens, our SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord rapid response team can help. Give us a call anytime at (978) 486-9868.

What Ice Dams Do to Your Littleton Residence
Icicles are beautiful to see but it Ice is forming in your gutters, you could get water damage inside your house.
How Ice Dams Cause Water Damage to Homes in Littleton
The attic space above your home experiences much more significant fluctuations in temperature throughout the year than the rest of your Littleton home does. When attics become warmer than the outside air and begins melting the underside of any snow or ice on the roof, water from this snow and ice melting can enter the home.
Littleton homeowners might experience water damage inside their homes when ice dams form on their roof. An ice dam traps water while the weight of the ice and compacted snow forces the water to travel upward in between shingles. This water eventually drips or trickles into the attic area and begins destroying materials. Insulation can become too compressed to protect from loss of heat, which often creates increasingly more massive ice dams later.
Water that enters your home in this manner can ruin more than your insulation. It can create the perfect oasis for microbes to occupy in your attic. Any air ducts with cracks or other breaks in them can whisk microbial matter into your living space downstairs, also. More visibly, water from slowly leaking roofing can cause stains on ceilings and in the upper portion of walls. Floors in your attic can become weak, making them unsafe. Items of a more fragile nature stored in your attic can also sustain water damage directly from seeping water or indirectly from water vapor that condenses on the surfaces of a box's interior and its contents.
The technicians at SERVPRO professionally mitigate the effects of water damage caused by ice dams in attics and living spaces. We can tarp the roof for temporary relief and recommend a team of professional roofers who can make the repairs necessary to prevent the problem from recurring. Once water finds a way into a home, that pathway remains open until we close it off physically.
SERVPRO employees understand the importance of following local guidelines in the disposal of materials like insulation, and we always do this in the safest manner possible. Double bagged materials remain safely contained as we carry them out of your residence. We bring the equipment necessary to dry out any dampness remaining quickly, as well. Once finished, we clean up the area and leave it all looking “Like it never even happened.”

How We Avoid Restoration Challenges In Your Boxborough Home After A Flood
Though some places are easy to dry during flood damage restoration, it is not always the case in some areas.
Dealing With Possible Restoration Challenges In Boxborough After A Flood Damage Experience
Though some places are easy to dry during flood damage restoration, it is not always the case in some areas. For instance, it can be challenging to access the HVAC ducting that is located in the attic or ceiling area and perform the necessary restoration work. Also, drying walls and floors behind the cabinets can take a lot of time. Our crew has the training and equipment to clean, dry, and restore such areas in your Boxborough home or business.
Our SERVPRO technicians have to clean and decontaminated the HVAC systems in your Boxborough property during flood damage restoration. We can quickly clean and disinfect sheet metal ducting, but we have to replace some form of ducting such as flex duct and coated fiberboard after exposure to black or gray water. The type of material the duct is made from determines the procedures we use when restoring HVAC systems. If it has fiberglass insulation, there are high chances of mold growth taking place if the situation is not attended to immediately. In such cases, we replace the fiberglass lining since the molds may lead to health effects.
The layers of drywall and cabinet back can slow the speed of drying the area around the cabinet. If the cabinet back is absent, our SERVPRO technicians drill holes into the walls to enhance the flow of air. In some situations, we use a vent system to force dry air through the wall cavities. Once the area is dry, we cover those holes. It is also possible to drill holes in the cabinet back and then use a similar material to patch them up at the end of the work. Drilling holes may lead to possible electrical and plumbing hazards, so we are careful about that and follow applicable regulations and laws. Also, we communicate with our clients before we can make the holes.
Our highly trained team at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord responds immediately to all restoration emergencies, be it water, fire, mold, or storm damage. Call us at (978) 486-9868 when you need to work with a leader in the restoration industry.

What SERVPRO Can Teach You About Fire Damage Restoration In Marlborough
The damages caused by fires are easier to address by following the right steps.
Steps For Effective Restoration Of Fire Damage In Marlborough
Adequately organized restoration efforts can reverse the effects of fire damage in your property. Fires cause a range of damages and may create conditions for other elements to harm the property further. For instance, when a fire causes a section of the roof to cave in, further losses are likely to occur should it rain before fixing this issue. Restoring damage to your Marlborough property, therefore, requires a multipronged approach. We offer professional restoration services that tackle different aspects simultaneously.
Before the restoration of fire damage in Marlborough starts, it is necessary to evaluate the extent to which the property is affected. Each blaze is usually unique, and therefore it is impossible to tell what is required in a case before evaluating it. The evaluation helps establish how far the smoke reached, or how far soot traveled among other things. There are many hazards in a burnt property including toxic residues, broken items and if the fire was very severe, some parts of the structure might be unstable. The person doing the evaluation must take proper precautions. Our SERVPRO team is well equipped with protective gear to handle such a process safely.
Cleanup is necessary when a fire affects your property. Fires leave many residues including scorched items, discolored surface, and residues on different sections of the property. The air might also be filled with aerosols. These remains must be removed from the property to restore it to preloss conditions. Our SERVPRO technicians can either vacuum or dissolve some of the residues for easier removal. Vacuuming is useful for dry particles loosely attached to surfaces. To remove residues attached to surfaces, we dissolve them in water or other solvents.
Renovating the affected property is an integral part of the restoration. Some of the items destroyed by the blaze can be salvaged through refinishing. For instance, upholstery items might require new covers, while walls can use a fresh coat of paint. When the process is over, a consultation session to find out ways that can prevent future blazes is essential. Based on the evaluations we do, our SERVPRO technicians can make useful suggestions.
The damages caused by fires are easier to address by following the right steps. Contact SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord at (978) 486-9868 to assist. We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster.

How Our Highly Trained Professionals Clean And Restore Your Fire Damaged Home In Hudson
To ease the process of restoring your property after a fire, you should call SERVPRO.
How To Deal With Various Aspects Of Fire damage In Hudson
Considering it only takes 30 seconds for a small fire to turn into a huge blaze, every Hudson home faces the risk of fire damage. With more and more items being made from synthetic materials nowadays, fires can start and spread within a few minutes. These materials also tend to produce excessive smoke that can damage areas not affected by the flames. The wrong approach can hamper recovery efforts.
Most cases of fire damage in Hudson also include damages from water. When fighting the fire, no one concentrates on the amount of water used so it might form pools or soak into porous materials. Extracting such water should be given priority once restoration starts because extended water exposure has its challenges. Our SERVPRO team is well equipped with extractors and other tools necessary to handle this.
In most cases, your insurance covers the costs involved. However, you might ruin the claim process if you fail to do proper documentation. Instead of waiting for the adjuster to arrive before starting the restoration, you can find out if photographic evidence is enough for the claim process. Calling the adjuster can help you confirm this and begin restoration. Our SERVPRO technicians can help you take the necessary photographs as they do the restoration. Doing this saves time thus limiting the chances of additional damages happening.
Unless it is a massive blaze that consumes the entire structure and its contents, most fire incidents leave many salvageable items. However, it might not be easy to tell the difference especially when everything is covered in soot. Our SERVPRO team begins by separating items into three groups. The groups include salvageable, unsalvageable and questionable items. To a trained eye, it is easier to make these distinctions. We can also move some contents to an offsite facility for cleaning. Moveouts improve the outcome of the salvage process.
To ease the process of restoring your property after a fire, you should call SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord at (978) 486-9868. We are available 24/7.

Mold and Water Make for a Working Labor Day Holiday in Wilmington
Wilmington Customers Are Impressed with SERVPRO's Fast and Courteous SERVICE After Water Loss and Mold Remediation Services
SERVPRO Is Available for Emergency Mold and Water Recovery—Even on Holidays
Family, friends, and fun are what you would typically expect on Labor Day weekend. However, this was not the case for this Wilmington, MA couple. They were throwing a holiday party and enjoying the company of family & friends when one of the grandchildren went down to the finished basement to play with some toys. When she stepped downstairs, she noticed inches of water sitting in the basement. She immediately ran upstairs and notified an adult.
The residents were stunned to discover that their hot water tank had leaked and flooded the finished basement in their Wilmington home. They were quite surprised and left without knowing what to do next. The homeowners' son had come to help his parents remove the contents. All the furniture and clothing were damaged as well as the rugs from the soaking. The son started the process of removing the carpets, and upon lifting them, he found mold growth on the baseboards and in the closets. The future customers knew that they had to call professionals to start mitigation services. After calling their insurance company, the insurance adjuster had recommended SERVPRO for water removal and the mold remediation services.
We arrived within hours and analyzed the situation to determine what needed to be done. However, our technicians uncovered more microbial growth on the wall panels and the drywall behind them. We had to remove the paneling and then cut out the affected drywall. Our technicians had to do selective deconstruction and cut four feet wide and four feet above where the microbial growth was found so it would lessen the chance of more growth spreading. The technicians next set up our advanced, fully certified equipment to reduce the moisture levels in the air. We placed HEPA filtered air scrubbers to capture mold particles and airborne spores. Low grain refrigerant LGR commercial dehumidifiers were placed in the basement to increase the drying process and reduce the excess humidity.
Our technicians were always communicating with the couple’s son to make sure the process was going smoothly on both ends. The crew always made a courtesy call before arriving at the residence much to the appreciation of the son and his parents. The residents believed that SERVPRO handled the whole situation professionally and efficiently and would highly recommend us to their friends and neighbors.

FAQ - SERVPRO Says Here Is What You Should Know About Water Damage in Marlboro and Concord
SERVPRO Solves the Puzzle for Mitigating Water and Mold Damage in the Marlboro and Concord Regions. Ask Us How?
8 Frequently Asked Questions Concerning Water Damage
1. How much does a water damage restoration cost?
A: SERVPRO provides a professional consultation/estimate at no charge. We base the cost on this consultation and inspection. We document where the damage occurred, what materials were damaged, and how much the water mitigation may cost. This is a professional estimate only determined by the size of the affected area, equipment calculations, proper drying plans, building materials that may need to be removed, and how much containment we may need to set up.
2. Are you filing a claim with your insurance?
A: If you are filing a claim in Marlboro or the surrounding area, SERVPRO will need your claim number and the name of your insurance company. We can then directly deal with your insurer releasing you from undue worry. You are responsible for the deductible and a deposit if no coverage is available.
3. What product sanitizes the affected elements after a water loss?
A: We use SERVPRO's proprietary decontamination products on the affected areas to reduce the likelihood of microbial growth. The primary decontaminant product is SERVPRO Oxide, an EPA registered chlorine dioxide based disinfectant and stabilizer. This product requires no personal protective equipment during application, is safe for use on all surfaces, and of course for people and pets.
4. Will I be able to stay in the house during the drying process?
A: The answer is yes if the residence is safe. The safety of our customers and employees is our number one priority. Each case is different depending on the severity of the damage and is evaluated as such. We encourage you to remain in your residence. However, if deemed unsafe, we can suggest to your insurance company to provide you with a temporary relocation. The drying equipment can be noisy, and usually must run for several days continuously during the dry-down period, so some customers prefer not to stay in the home during this time, or at least not during sleeping hours.
5. How fast can a SERVPRO crew arrive during an emergency loss to help?
A: The average time is within 2 hours after receiving the phone call. They can arrive on site to do emergency services and start the mitigation process right away. We just needed a signed Service Authorization Form.
6. What is the drying process for water damage?
A: The drying process begins with the crew and homeowner first establishing the source of the water or leak and stopping it. The crew checks for any electrical safety concerns. Our technicians can extract any standing water from the affected area and use moisture detection and measuring equipment as well as psychrometrics to determine the moisture in the walls and the air. The SERVPRO crew can establish a drying plan to determine the best means of restoration for the structure. We can then deploy a variety of drying systems and equipment, including air movers and commercial grade dehumidifiers, to thoroughly dry the materials and environment. The entire drying process typically takes about 3-5 days to complete.
7. Does all water damage cause mold?
A: Each water damaging event presents an opportunity for mold or other microbial growth. The source and type of water (clean, gray, or black) the severity, the ambient temperature, and the duration that moisture has been present all have a direct impact on the amount and types of microbial growth species. It is vital that you take action as soon as you realize that a water damage loss has occurred to prevent the spread of the microbial growth in your home or business.
8. How soon can microbial growth start to grow?
A: It varies depending upon the conditions, but in most cases, microbial growth can be present within 72 hours of a water damage event. Quickly responding is crucial to prevent the spread of microbials and secondary water damage.

Marlborough Asbestos Sampling Is the Law before Structural Work Can Begin
SERVPRO Says Asbestos Sampling Before We Work on Your Marlborough Home Is the Law
SERVPRO Obeys Massachusetts Law for Asbestos Testing and Abatement Guidelines for Our Marlborough Customers
Why does the Commonwealth of Massachusetts require asbestos sampling before the demolition, renovation, or disruption of building materials? Please continue reading for an important message.
No matter how old your home is in Marlborough, it is always in danger of having asbestos. Asbestos contains the mineral Chrysotile that becomes fibers when woven together. When these fibers become airborne and are inhaled or ingested, they can be very harmful and dangerous, not only to the homeowner but the technicians as well. Airborne asbestos can cause lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other forms of cancer that can kill you.
In our colder climates, this material was utilized as a thermal insulator for furnaces, ductwork, pipes, ceiling or floor tiles, and even as a binder for joint compounds and textured paints. Very inexpensive, easy to use and unfortunately, discovered to be very toxic and harmful. Therefore, before demolition or renovations can begin in a home, asbestos sampling must take place. SERVPRO realizes that our customers what to get on with the work, but safety comes first. Plus, it is the law.
If the test comes back negative, then our SERVPRO technicians can get to work. But, with a positive result, we must call in a third-party asbestos company to do the required abatement. Isolating the carcinogenic materials and disposing of them without contaminating the surroundings is crucial to the process. Any material containing at least one percent of asbestos is considered ACM or asbestos-containing material. Any person who performs “asbestos abatement activities at the owner's residence...that contains suspect ACM must prior to conducting any demolition or renovation employ or engage an asbestos inspector...and prepare a written asbestos survey report.”(MassDEP). No matter how old the house is, Massachusetts requires asbestos sampling be done by law.
Our primary objective is to ensure the safety of our customers and technicians as well. We do not do this to upset our customers or annoy them, but instead, make sure our customers can be healthy and safe in the working environment. Trust the SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord team to meet and beat your expectations even if you have to wait a few days for your final satisfaction. (978) 486-9868

Drying and Protecting a Wet Basement in Marlborough After a Storm
If your basement suffers from a major or minor flooding event, pick up the phone and call SERVPRO for successful drying services.
Our Technicians Will Investigate ALL of the Causes of Your Wet Basement After a Storm, Before Commencing With the Remediation Process
Marlborough and our part of Massachusetts went through an incredible amount of extreme weather this year, and the upcoming winter is not expected to be any milder right now. Problems and damage not completed repaired or restored can resurface after the first heavy rain.
Many homeowners found themselves with a wet basement in Marlborough after a storm last year. If the water level was low, many of them used a water-vac to remove it and then let everything air dry as best as possible. At SERVPRO, we understand that this does not solve the problem, only push it back for more water intrusion later.
With the next storm, more water finds its way into the basement. After one of our restoration teams arrive, they start with two tasks, remove the water and determine how it entered the basement.
They start removal with a commercial grade pump to remove any water higher than ankle-deep. Depending on the area of the basement, this can take a few hours to a day or two. If there are any carpets on the floor, team members next use extraction wands to draw out the water and then remove the carpets to dry outside. If there is a pad underneath them, they dispose of it immediately.
With the water gone, a SERVPRO inspector carefully checks the walls and floor for cracks and seepage points. Some of these can be as small as the tip of a pencil, so the inspection takes a long time. In some cases, a seep does not show until enough water comes through to reveal a damp patch.
Technicians fill any cracks and seep with hydraulic cement to seal them off. Next, they coat the walls and the floor if needed with a layer of masonry cement. It adheres tightly to concrete and forms an excellent barrier against further water intrusion.
If there are a large number of cracks inside the basement, then there are usually larger cracks in the outside walls. To protect the basement and the foundation, we recommend allowing our team to dig out around the foundation, expose the walls, and cover them with a thick, liquid rubber compound. It seals the entire concrete surface and does not leak unless there is physical damage that separates the blocks.
A wet basement is usually a minor problem, but it can become an expensive one if not dried and repaired properly. SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is here to help you protect your home from this and other effects of severe storms. Call us today at (978) 486-9868 for more information and to set up an inspection.

Concord Condo Suffers Water and Mold Damage
SERVPRO Professionally Removes Water and Remediates Mold Damage in the Concord Area
Vacationing up north is always a fun idea for the summer, especially when you have a house to visit. However, things didn’t go as planned for this tenant in Concord, Massachusetts when visiting her vacation home.
A neighbor next to her condo had noticed spongy carpets in the hallway entrance to the apartment building. The neighbor had notified the office, and the property manager called the owner of the building right away. The owner, who had been living in Colorado, got the news that their Concord unit had sustained mold and water damage created by the water heater. He was very shocked by this news, because he had owned this property since 2008, and never had this problem before. The owner left his Colorado home to check on the scene and decided what steps he needed to take next. Because the tenant had been away on vacation, mold had spread throughout the residence. Apparently, the mold had been growing and water dripping for about a month before anyone noticed the leakage.
The owner immediately called his insurance company who recommended SERVPRO for water and mold restoration services. We excel at remediating the mold and extracting the water from the affected areas. There was substantial mold found in the boiler room closet as well as the baseboards of the family room and kitchen cabinets. The water damaged carpet in the condo was not able to be saved due to the length of time the carpet had been wet and the extent of the mold damage. The crew arranged for the contents to be removed from the area to prevent further mold proliferation.
SERVPRO first removed the affected carpet that was soaking wet from the water damage. The technicians used powerful equipment to initially lift and remove most of the water. They then used advanced equipment to contain the area with the mold and to extract the water. The crew then set up containment around the affected areas using thick 6 mil poly sheeting and poles so that the mold could not spread any further. This is a vital step in the mold remediation process to limit the damage. Next, the crew used air scrubbers for air purification and dehumidifiers to remove residual moisture to dry the areas fully. Our technicians applied an antimicrobial product to all the affected areas. Selective deconstruction was done, removing the drywall four feet off the floor.
The property owner came and examined the property and stated that SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord was the right company to call. We are available 24 hours 7 days a week to restore your investment property to its preloss condition, "Like it never even happened." (978) 486-9868

Simple Approaches for Correcting Attic Mold Damage in Littleton
Finding mold in your attic can signify that the roof is leaking. Contact SERVPRO to assess and identify any potential causes and remediate the damage.
Team SERVPRO Offers Solutions for Recurring Problems During the Mold Remediation Process at a Home
Most of the homeowners do not know how to deal with mold damage in the attic area. When mold infestation is left unattended to for an extended period, then it can cause adverse property damage and health effects. It is critical to deal with the problem the moment it is spotted in your Littleton home to avoid further contamination.
Attic mold damage in Littleton is common, and it is attributable to four primary causes: inadequate or improper attic ventilation, bathroom fans that are improperly exhausted, when enough roofing is not installed, or due to past or existing roof leaks. When our SERVPRO technicians are performing the remediation, we first provide for the health and safety of the occupants and our team. We also put in place measures to ensure that the mold does not spread to the clean areas of the building.
Our SERVPRO professionals also analyze the extent of contamination and the amount of moisture saturation. It makes it easy to identify the moisture sources and the areas to clean and fix. If we discover the blown-in insulation is heavily infested, we remove it and disinfect the attic and later on introduce new insulation. Disinfection of surfaces neutralizes fungi and bacteria and minimizes chances of future mold growth problems.
The tiny mold spores usually settle on surfaces during the mold removal and cleanup procedures. We have to perform HEPA vacuuming to capture both the settling spores and dust. Our SERVPRO technicians also perform damp wiping of all soiled surfaces using detergents. We have extensive training and years of experience dealing with mold and getting to the hard-to-clean areas that can be very challenging. The crucial final step is correcting the moisture problem that initially contributed to the mold growth.

How Water Cleanup Works For Hudson Residents
A quick response is crucial to homes that need water cleanup in Hudson.
How Water Cleanup Works
Water or fire damage is a distressing situation, and your response is crucial. When water leaks, it can carry bacterias, sewage or grime into your home, staining furniture, carpets, walls, and floors. The quicker we respond to the situation the less likely it is that permanent damage occurs. SERVPRO has a crew of highly trained technicians who can be onsite within just 4 hours from notice of loss.
A quick response is crucial to homes that need water cleanup in Hudson. The thing a qualified water technician can do when arriving on site is to assess immediate danger and mitigate loss. That begins by finding the source of water, cordoning off areas of danger and removing furniture and possessions.
In our 40 years of experience, our experts have found that communication is key to the job. A SERVPRO professional can provide you with a detailed, step-by-step explanation of the process as well as the likely outcome of each step. If you know of any pre-existing conditions or materials that could be a problem, like asbestos, you need to let our team know.
Once we are both satisfied, we begin by extracting water. SERVPRO can use powerful submersible gas pumps to extract pooling water. In less extreme cases, we can use industrial wet/dry vacuums to bring moisture out of carpeted floors. How long the initial drying process takes depends on the size of the affected area and the extent of damage which is measured using moisture meters.
With the initial phase complete, we can begin the restoration process. Carpets can be removed to clean and dry both sides, reducing the possibility of mold growth after the event. Items can be treated with sanitizer, dried, deodorized and returned to their original place. SERVPRO always look to mitigate loss, but in some cases, items may be beyond repair.
A full explanation can be given during the final walkaround to show you where work has been done and areas where replacements are necessary. We then clear away our tools, remove any barriers placed in affected areas and leave you with a clean, water-free home.
If you find your home in a water emergency, your first call should be your insurance company. The second should be SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord. Call us on (978) 486-9868 now, and we promise to arrange a service within one hour.

How to Clean Your Hudson Property during Fire Damage Restoration
SERVPRO Expertly Cleans Smoke Damaged Possessions in Hudson Properties
SERVPRO Professionally Handles Fire and Smoke Residue Wipe Downs and Clean Ups for Hudson Area Properties
Restoration and cleaning services are vital when dealing with fire damage. There are instances where you can avoid the costly option of replacement, as well as reduce the damage claims. When you are working with professionals, it is possible to repaint some structural surfaces, recover your upholstery contents, and refinish some of your wooden items. We do that by applying the elements and principles of cleaning when treating to such incidents in Hudson.
We start by introducing some of the principles of cleaning that our SERVPRO technicians use during fire damage restoration in Hudson. Inspecting the site and locating the smoke residues is essential. The inspection usually begins from the point where the fire started from, and then we proceed to other parts of the structure. To select the most appropriate cleaning method, we must also identify the type of soot particles at the site. The preferred method should not also introduce any form of damage on the target surfaces.
While some smoke residues bond with the surfaces during the fire, it takes time for some to form a strong bond with the surfaces and materials they contact. Vacuuming soiled surfaces when possible is almost always the preferred first step in the cleanup process. Wet and dry cleaning techniques are the conventional processes we employ when releasing and carrying the smoke residues from the affected areas. That is why we have a good understanding of the four elements of cleaning - temperature, time, chemical action, and agitation. We always suggest that smoke detectors are installed in applicable rooms in every home.
Our SERVPRO technicians understand that some cleaning products are more effective at a specific temperature. Also, some surfaces or items are easy to clean by slightly increasing the temperature. When dislodging particles from surfaces, we may use agitation to do the work. During this process, we use brushes, towels, sonic vibrations and water pressure. Agitation can also help us to spread the cleaning agents across surfaces. Some of the chemical actions we use include bleaching, emulsifying, dissolving, and oxidizing.
If you are after residential and commercial cleaning or restoration services, then SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is the answer. Call us at (978) 486-9868 for our highly trained technicians to meet your needs.

Hardware Plus Approaches To Combating A Wet Basement In Your Marlborough Residence
SERVPRO Helps Keep Marlborough Basements High and Dry
Marlborough Basements When Kept Dry Offer Added Living Space and Health to Families
A wet lower level in your Marlborough home can lead to multiple issues and effects for your house and your family alike. Maybe it does not sound like a pressing concern, the possibility of structural failure and microbial/mold growth should encourage you to take care of this issue as promptly as possible.
Taking care of this persistent concern is a little more challenging than you might have thought it to be. Most homeowners do not have the appropriate equipment or training to entirely remove the moisture in their Marlborough wet basement, let alone to prevent this situation from happening again in the immediate future.
The way that our SERVPRO technicians determine what your home needs in this situation is through a thorough inspection into the current conditions of the basement and the source of the dampness. This assessment can aid in determining the equipment necessary as well as the specific tasks to eliminate the current moisture and prevent it from recurring through repairs and the installation of specialized machines. We can also assess if waterproofing the exterior with a coating or having the foundation area grade sloped away from the structure have a positive effect.
If flooding and water damage are persistent threats to the basement, your SERVPRO technicians on site might encourage you to consider the installation of a sump pump. This machine can divert the water away from the concrete floors and the walls of your basement, but typically requires grading the floors towards this installation or installing concrete canals to divert the water into this sump pump basin.
Another proposed piece of equipment could be a dehumidifier. This appliance can pull the moisture out of the environment, which would include any moisture seeping in from the walls or the concrete floors of your basement area. In many instances, this equipment alone can prevent recurrences of dampness that can lead to mold growth or construction material damage.
The plan to restore the damage that your home sustains from a wet basement varies per instance, but this is a good idea of the nature of the work that we do extending beyond extraction and drying efforts. You can count on our SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord rapid response team to help you control the situation quickly and return your house to the dry place it should be. Give us a call today at (978) 486-9868.

Storm Damage Can Allow Flooding In Your Maynard Residence
Call SERVPRO to Rescue Your Maynard Home after Flooding
Maynard Homeowners Call SERVPRO for Water Extraction and Drying after Stormy Incidents
Severe weather is no stranger to the state of Massachusetts, let alone to the residents of Maynard. From the heavy snowfall throughout the winter months to the torrential rainfall expected through the spring and summer months, homes take a beating all year round from these steady elements. Even with the reinforcement of roofs and exterior materials like siding, homes still fall victim to the severe weather and allow substantial volumes of runoff or floodwaters to enter their home.
While these unfortunate circumstances might come unexpectedly, knowing what to do when they happen can help to limit the flood damages that your Maynard home experiences. One of the first things that you should do is to know whom to call in the event of an emergency like this, and that is a professional restoration company like SERVPRO.
Floodwaters entering your home can quickly saturate the materials used in the construction of your house. If the water damage originates from the attic area, materials like insulation and ceiling framework can get too heavy to remain supported and collapse into the lower levels of your home. One of the SERVPRO goals is to make every job as safe as possible, which begins with assessing these risks along with the full scope of the damage that your home faces.
Another consideration is the removal and replacement of the materials too irreparably damaged for restoration to be practical or even possible. This assessment is one that takes a trained eye and experience to make, which can eliminate unessential costs and help to make the restoration process go more quickly. The final call for tossing non-salvageable materials, especially possessions and furnishings, is controlled by the homeowner and the insurance adjuster. We can advise which areas of your home can get restored with drying efforts and cleanup and which require removal and replacement.
While there are no ways that you can prepare yourself for the potential flooding that can come from storm damages on the exterior of your house, there are ways that you can prepare for what you would do if such an occurrence happens. You should give our experienced SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord restoration team a call immediately at (978) 486-9868.

Odor Removal In Marlborough Homes
SERVPRO's Arsenal of Odor-Killing Devices Included Special HEPA/Carbon Filtered Equipment to Restore Fresh, Clean Indoor Air Quality in Marlborough
Many Causes of House Odors Are Neutralized with SERVPRO Expertise
Most malodors in Marlborough homes often come after a fire leaves smoke and odor residues throughout the structure. Eliminating them is often the final step to returning a home to its original condition after a fire. Other sources in our area usually come from an animal carcass under the home or in the attic, or an excess of animal feces in a crawlspace. Crime scene and hoarding can also require professional-grade efforts for odor removal.
For Marlborough odor removal, SERVPRO technicians follow four key steps to clean and protect area homes: Remove the source and debris, clean surface residues, recreate conditions to eliminate, and seal surfaces.
The first step is to remove the odor source whenever possible. Team specialists dispose of charred structural and personal property debris, or animal carcasses immediately. If an item has a layer of smoke residue on it, then our personnel remove it to an unaffected part of the house, another facility, or take it outside if the weather is good. Removal eliminates much of the odors, and if the source was in the removed debris or property, the home returns to its pre-odor condition quickly with a little help.
Next, SERVPRO technicians clean and wipe down every surface which contains an odor-causing residue. They can break down and remove most residues with a cleaning agent and a dry or wet sponge. If the residues came from a kitchen fire, then they may contain grease, which makes them much harder to remove. Team members may need to use scrubbing brushes and stronger cleaning agents depending on the surface of the property. An example would be removing odor-residues trapped in upholstered furniture.
If the odors penetrated the surface of an item, then technicians may need to recreate the condition. To do this, they distribute a deodorizing agent in the same way smoke got into the property during the fire. Often, they use a fogger machine to create a cloud of deodorizing or neutralizing agent and spray onto the surface. The cloud can penetrate to the same level as the smoke, blocking or eliminating the malodors. This option is not always available due to possible chemical reactions with plastics, vinyl, and rubber products within the house. Hydroxyl generators and HEPA filtered air scrubbers with activated charcoal filters are two more useful devices for bad odor neutralization.
The final step is to seal the surfaces. It is not used regularly but is effective for blocking mild odors that remain after cleaning if the homeowner does not want to remove structural property. Our technicians use paint with an odor-blocker to prevent odors from entering through the walls. This is useful also to contain previously mold infested elements.
Our goal at SERVPRO of Marlborough / Concord is to return your home to a clean-looking, and smelling condition. If you detect any malodor in your home, call us immediately at (978) 486-9868 to schedule a visit.

Expert Help For Marlborough Office Wet Carpet Woes
SERVPRO's Water Extraction from Wet Carpets Mitigates Damages in Marlborough Commercial Properties
Wet and Water Damaged Commercial Carpets Get the Professional Service Needed for Restoration from SERVPRO in the Marlborough Area
Wall to wall carpet gives a professional look to your Marlborough office or hotel, but adequately maintaining it is necessary to preserve its appearance and function. Leaving the cleaning and repair of damage to your floor coverings to your housekeeping staff might not be the best choice, especially if a significant water incursion soaks your carpet. Our crews are experienced in resolving wet carpet issues and are available to help quickly.
If a water cooler or lobby aquarium breaks and spills in your Marlborough office, restoring and drying the wet carpet must be job one. Merely mopping up the moisture or renting a cleaner cannot give you the peace of mind a professional restoration delivers. Carpets take a beating even without the addition of excess water but are expensive and time-consuming to replace. IICRC trained technicians from our production teams approach the job of removing the water and drying the floor and carpet with strategies back by research and best practices.
Removing the carpet is an option, but that is disruptive to your business operations. SERVPRO crews receive advanced training on in-place drying of the floor, padding, and carpeting. When we arrive, we assess the extent of the water saturation and take steps to minimize further migration of the fluid to unaffected areas of the carpet. Drying the several layers of floor covering requires the operation of weighted extraction wands, using pressure to force the moisture out of carpeting and padding. Only certified technicians can ensure the repeated passes of the extractors do no damage the carpet further, including potential rips, tars, stretching, and delamination of the backing from the fibers. When commercial grade glue-down carpeting has been affected by a large water spillage, the requirements are different and can be covered in another blog article.
Sometimes it makes sense to remove and replace the padding, particularly when the water holds contaminants. This can be done in stages without requiring the entire carpet to be taken up at one time. As the areas under the padding are exposed, examination and drying of the underlying floor can occur. SERVPRO crews work closely with you, and our office provides a liaison to your insurance company as we complete the job to ensure the restoration efforts chosen, including replacement of parts of the carpeting system, are covered by your policy.
Cleaning, sanitizing, and thorough drying must also be a part of the procedure. SERVPRO uses effective and dedicated carpet cleaning solutions and EPA registered disinfectants after the water removal to ensure clean and sanitary conditions. We position supports and air movers to direct warm airflow over and under the carpet while running dehumidifiers to speed the water vapor migration out of the fibers.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is ready to assist when a water spill or crisis soaks your office carpet. Call (978) 486-9868 immediately to avoid secondary damage -- reach us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Returning A Marlborough Hotel Room To Non-Smoker Odor-Free Status
SERVPRO Can Eliminate Odors from Marlborough Hotels and Residential Properties
SERVPRO Remedies Odor Problems in Commercial Establishments in the Marlborough Area
As a hospitality and lodging provider, you want each of your guests to find comfort and relaxation in their Marlborough hotel room. You make a promise to guests that request a non-smoking room that their environment is free of the smell and residues associated with cigarettes while staying at your hotel. Our deodorization technicians and innovative equipment may be your answer.
When guests check into the non-smoking room your staff prepared for them, the success of any odor removal techniques used in your Marlborough hotel is on trial. If a previous guest ignored the signs and smoked in the room, your non-smoking customers may be upset at the lingering odor. Effective odor removal often requires trying many approaches until one works, and our OCT, odor control technicians, IICRC-certified crews are familiar with this process.
Upon arrival, SERVPRO’s crew lead assess the room or rooms that need odor removal. Although it may seem that the smell is airborne only, we seek out other, remediable sources. Furnishings and carpeting attract and hold the tiny particles of ash, tar, and other substances incompletely burned. We start with a thorough cleaning, including the upholstery and carpet using our commercial strength steam extractors and professional cleaning products.
Nicotine and other substances can stain walls and from there emit smells. Our crews wash walls with appropriate cleaners. SERVPRO might suggest repainting the walls and sealing wooden portions of furnishings and headboards to keep odor penetrating beneath these surfaces from vaporizing. Frequently each room has a separate heating and cooling system, and we also inspect and clean the vents and any ductwork to prevent the smoke smells from recirculating.
SERVPRO also can access resources that eliminate odors by changing the chemical composition of the minute particles floating in the air and embedded in surfaces and fixtures. One option is thermal fogging, a process where air cleaners combust in a heated chamber and then bond with and render smell-free the particles remaining in the room. Other resources include hydroxyl generators and other oxygenation systems. A form of UV light creates the hydroxyl radicals that then react with solid pollutants like cigarette smoke and help destroy them. These processes eliminate the odors, not just cover them up like most air fresheners.
Efficient and profitable management of your hotel requires all rooms possible are available, and SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is ready to deodorize areas of your premises damaged by previous guests smoking in spaces designated “non-smoking.” Call for a consultation at (978) 486-9868.

Professional Mold Damage Remediation Techniques For Your Concord Home
High moisture areas like the bathroom can develop mold damage the professionals at SERVPRO can remediate.
Remediating mold damage from your home
Some Concord homeowners feel encouraged to try to handle a mold infestation on their own. Although you may feel empowered with a bottle of diluted chlorine bleach spray in one hand, entrusting the mold remediation tasks to our professionals is a wiser and potentially less costly decision. Our trained technicians and safer yet more efficient mold treatments and protocols keep everyone safe and adapt to manage mold outbreaks more extensive than first believed.
Mold damage in Concord is not something to embarrass or panic a homeowner. It merely shows the link between two elements that are common in any home -- mold spores and water. Mold spores float and settle everywhere indoors and out. They are an essential natural component in breaking down dead vegetation and abandoned organic materials outdoors. Indoors their growth is unwanted, but it follows the same process as in the natural world -- water absorbed by a mold spore jump starts its life cycle. Colonies develop, needing only the moisture and air and a surface made of or coated with organic materials. No light is required, so they often multiply in the dark and hidden areas of your home.
The hyphae that make up a mold colony can penetrate porous surfaces such as insulation, fabrics, and drywall. Unlike the professional products used by SERVPRO, DIY remedies like diluted bleach or other pre-formulated cleaners often only work on a very superficial level. Dark mold stains may lighten, or mildew in the corner of the shower might disappear for a few days, but the mold returns quickly. When these water-based products soak into the drywall, grout, or insulation, they are not strong enough to kill the outbreak. The high percentage of water in these mixtures instead can feed the mold.
When the SERVPRO remediation crew takes on the task, a different emphasis results in more successful results. A Microbial Remediation Supervisor reviews your scenario, evaluating the extent of the mold damage and devising a comprehensive plan to contain and remove the mold infestation. We use barriers or negative pressure air scrubbers to protect unaffected areas of your home while observing proper procedures to clean up lingering debris and lawfully dispose of all moldy materials. Scraping and the use of gentle abrasives like sodium bicarbonate loosens and removes the mold below the surface.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord commits to offer residents in our community reliable mold damage remediation. Contact us at (978) 486-9868 to set up an appointment for a mold consultation, including suggestions on how to eliminate the water intrusions causing the growth.

Seasonal Storms Can Cause Flood Damage in Your Hudson Home
SERVPRO Can Replace Storm Damaged Insulation in Hudson Homes Along with Water Extraction and Drying
Floods from the Roof or Foundation Present Emergency Cleanups and Water Removal--Call the Professionals from SERVPRO
Spring brings a lot of rain to the State of Massachusetts, and the excessive volume of water has the potential to cause flood damage in any homes that are not adequately prepared. If the roof on your home is already in critical condition, a weekend of rain can quickly turn into a disaster for you. Water flooding into your attic can soak through the ceiling, causing water spots and rotting the material if it is not dealt with immediately. When water damage occurs inside of your home, it is always a wise decision to call for help immediately.
No part of your home is meant to withstand significant flood damage, but the attic of your Hudson home is particularly weak. Most attics are usually not finished, and it is never good if water has direct access to the bare structure of your property. Insulation and support beams can become waterlogged and turn into the perfect place for microbial growth in as little as 72 hours. If mold is allowed to form, it puts the structure in your home in even more damage, as mold rots organic material, such as the wooden frame of your home. The quicker you are to call for help, the more likely you are to have successful remediation.
After receiving your call, SERVPRO makes it our top priority to travel to your home quickly. When we arrive, we can bring trade tools with us to remove any pooling water from your home before drying out the structure. Insulation is relatively easy to dry and save, however, our SERVPRO techs may need to remove it to access water that has reached the sheetrock underneath it. Our team has extensive experience with replacing wet or contaminated insulation. We use tools such as extractors and wet/dry vacuums to tackle any pooling water. Afterward, SERVPRO can employ the use of air movers, ventilation fans, and dehumidifiers to dry out the structure of your attic.
If your home suffers from flood damage, do not hesitate. Dial (978) 486-9868 to connect with SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord. We understand how essential it is to arrive quickly and always strive to do so.

Deodorization For The Odors That Imperil Your Concord Business
Make Your Concord Business Center "Purr with Purity," Call SERVPRO for Odor Control and Improved IAQ
Concord Enterprises Turn to SERVPRO for Odor Control and Abatement
Businesses come and go throughout Concord, and some of the ones that are on their way out of the picture can leave an unwelcome reminder of their presence by a lingering odor in the building or strip center unit that traditional cleaning and deodorizing spray cannot overcome. Your new office could have recently experienced a fire before you acquired it, for instance. Your new restaurant dining area could get positioned in what used to be the locker room for a local athletic team. The list goes on. Fortunately, in circumstances where you have a persistent odor to overcome, and you cannot seem to handle it alone, you can count on professional restoration.
Regardless of what is causing the lingering foul odor in your Concord building, you want to be able to separate your new business from whatever happened in that space before. Our SERVPRO restoration specialists can help you through our expertise and sophisticated equipment to remove this persistent problem once and for all.
When our team arrives at your building, we go over the entire facility to ensure that there are no apparent sources of the odor, and to assess how widespread this effect is throughout your building. To remove this odor, our SERVPRO technicians often employ thermal fogging machines throughout all of the affected areas. This process integrates open areas, surfaces, furniture, fabrics, and textiles into the deodorization efforts.
This machine emits a chemical compound that can break apart foul odor molecules in the air and those that embed into surfaces and fabrics. This process neutralizes the molecules and leaves no discernable smell behind. Our SERVPRO OCT odor control technician may set up an air scrubber or two that utilizes several different types of filters. A HEPA, high-efficiency particulate absorber filter, can capture airborne motes as small as 0.3 microns that may contain smoke, dander, pollen, mold spores, and varying odorous materials. The second filter is activated carbon, well-known as an odor eater. Purifying the ambient environment and improving the IAQ indoor air quality offer benefits to employees, clients, customers for a sense of well-being and even less sick days.
Whether you are overcoming a disaster of your own doing or trying to separate your business from its distinctly smelly past, professional restoration can help you through every step. When it comes to deodorization and restoration for your business, regardless of the source, SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord can show you how to reclaim your space. Give our experienced restoration specialists a call 24/7 at (978) 486-9868.

The Discovery of Black Mold In Your Concord Home
Moldy Mess in Concord? Call SERVPRO for Remediation and Cleanup
SERVPRO Alleviates Fears and Remediates Mold for Our Customers
The discovery of mold in your home is something that many Concord homeowners have in common. Humid conditions and moisture left behind in your home after storm damages occur often provide the right circumstances for fungal and microbial growth. While some might get billed as being worse than others, any mold growth in your home is something that you want to address as quickly as possible.
One of the varieties of fungal growth that tend to get named as more harmful or severe than others in your Concord home is black mold. In truth, this might look different and more ominous than other types you might have seen in the past, but the effects of its presence typically are the same as any other type you might encounter.
Our SERVPRO team of Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians AMRT get uniquely trained to handle every variety of mold that could surface and colonize in your home. Our experience and equipment can allow our team to work efficiently in remediating the damage that black mold causes and make the environment safer for you and your family.
With the understanding that mold can cause health effects to you and your family, remediating the damage is a critical step that should immediately follow the discovery of the growth. When our SERVPRO technicians arrive at your home, we get to work on isolating the affected area with plastic containment barriers, negative air chambers, and air scrubbers outfitted with HEPA filters for capturing mold particulates and spores as small as 0.3 microns. These devices catch airborne mold spores to prevent them from spreading to new areas of your home while the remediation is underway. We can also utilize activated carbon in this scrubbers to improve the indoor air quality.
Often sanding and soda blasting are typical approaches to removal of the mold colonies, especially when they get deeply seated in a material. Extraction of these colonies is not always effective, however. Sometimes removal of the severely damaged material (and replacement of new material) is necessary to complete the mold remediation.
Many people end up misguided by a belief that black mold is more dangerous or hazardous in your home than other types. While this might not be the case, exposure to any variety of mold is something you should handle as soon as you can. Trust the mold remediation specialists at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord to help you through every step of this process. Give us a call today at (978) 486-9868.

Inspections and Insurance Claims Following A Fire To Your Hudson Home
House Fires in Hudson, Insurance Adjusters, and How SERVPRO Can Help
SERVPRO Can Assist with Claims After Damaging Fires to Your Property and Possessions
While a fire in your Hudson home might be traumatic enough, merely experiencing the damage firsthand might seem overwhelming at first. Finding the right kind of help in this situation is critical, both to help you restore the damages that have occurred and to aid in getting insurance companies to understand the full scope of the devastation to your home and what is a requirement to bring it back to the way that it used to be.
While you might still be working to assess the fire damages to your Hudson residence, this is not a process that you should undertake alone. Our SERVPRO team of experienced technicians can walk through the house with you and gauge the full extent of the fire damage that it has suffered and what our professionals need to do to restore it. One of the essential aspects of this process is to have an open dialogue with your insurance company to make them aware of what needs to happen.
Often this communication is overseen by our SERVPRO project or production manager working to keep the restoration running smoothly at your residence. This individual meets with the insurance adjuster and shows our findings and restoration model and works to get the appropriate approvals from the home insurance outfit so that work can continue without delays. Moreover, this open line of communication works to ensure that you are not responsible for expenses that your insurance company was not clear about or did not approve.
The estimator for our work sets out to determine what in your home can get successfully restored. This process includes making a claims list based on the value of specific items that cannot get restored through our efforts. The final determination of what to salvage rests with the client and the carrier. Please bear in mind that we are NOT an insurance company.
While a fire in your home is traumatic enough, the stress of dealing with your insurance company and its adjustment team can be equally as problematic at times. In these cases, it might be a better option for you to leave it to the professionals we have at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord. Our team can work directly with your insurance company to show the importance of each restoration task, and ultimately achieve these goals and get your home back the way it should be after a damaging fire. Insulation Removal From Marlborough Homes After a Storm
SERVPRO Removes Insulation from Marlborough Homes After Soaking Storms
SERVPRO Provides Professional Services for Insulation Removal from Attics
Marlborough homes are now preparing for the summer heat. Winter storms are over, but their effects can result in high cooling bills and owners still sweltering in an uncomfortable home.
Insulation removal is necessary for Marlborough homes when their rolled or blown-in insulation starts to compress after stormwater soaks and begins to compress it. This may even lead to mold growth. If it is the original insulation, then it may have already begun deteriorating from age. That increases the effects of compression, and the insulation is barely more useful than stacks of newspapers. SERVPRO understands how the loss occurs and how to remove the damaged insulation safely.
Compression from stormwater reduces the R-value or thermal resistance. It measures how rapidly insulation and other building materials, such as siding, control heat. A high R-value indicates the insulation or other material prevents the transfer of heat into a home in the summer and keeps the heat inside a home in the winter.
The R-value lowers over time due to the natural breakdown of cellulose or fiberglass insulation fibers. Blown-in is more vulnerable than rolled insulation, and cellulose breaks down more quickly than fiberglass. Cellulose is also more common than fiberglass in homes over 25 years old. If you have owned your home for that long, or cannot determine the age of the insulation, you need to have a restoration service like SERVPRO examine it for age and compression from storms and animal infestation. To complicate the insulation materials available, mineral wool insulation can also cause rusting of stored items in an attic.
Regardless if it cellulose or the more expensive fiberglass, both potentially hazardous when removing them from attics and walls. Our restoration teams first don protective gear and then remove the bulk of the affected material using commercial grade vacuums and hoses. Every fiber is drawn out of the home and into specially designed storage bags to safely remove it without contaminating your home or the surrounding property.
The teams then move in with rakes and other tools to scrape out every inch of the insulation from the corners and low-points under the roof. If needed, they can switch to a smaller vacuum head to get farther into these tight areas.
Our goal at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is to leave each homeowner with a clean, dry environment for new insulation. If you are not certain about your R-value, contact us today at (978) 486-9868. We are here to help.

Circumstances beyond our control can lead to unwelcome developments, including odors that seem to come from nowhere. When your commercial building in Marlborough develops such a problem, knowing that solutions exist can set your mind at ease. Welcoming clients and potential partners to your business can happen more easily when you and your employees feel confident and at ease. An odor permeating your building can prevent that from happening.
Marlborough businesses in need of odor removal can get help. SERVPRO specialists include IICRC-certified Odor Control Technicians (OCT) who can combat the odors making your business' atmosphere unpleasant. The cause of such odors helps determine the most appropriate methods.
Our methods use the latest in technological advances so you can rest assured that your building's odor problem becomes a thing of the past. We work hard to improve IAQ indoor air quality. Some causes that may exist in your building include vermin in enclosed spaces, smoke from fires or hidden smoking of cigarettes, and cooking odors that permeated into non-kitchen areas. The list goes on with dirty HVAC or furnace systems that caused puff-backs.
After we discover and solve the cause of such odor, we can begin eliminating the residual effects left behind. Rodents and other pests leave nests behind, as well as other debris. Raccoon urine latrines require the discarding of tainted insulation. Removing this, then sanitizing the area often removes the source of the offensive odors. However, when liquids permeate into absorbent materials, these may require removal, followed by replacements, to solve the problem.
Smoke can deposit tar, from cigarettes, or soot, from the burning of wood, papers, and plastics, which combusted during a fire. Thermal fogging can help in this situation, as its forced fog carries deodorizing agents into the same small crevices that the smoke entered. This method produces excellent results and does not require a building to remain closed for long periods, if at all.
Cooking odors, including those from grease fires, require special cleaning agents that remove the grease and soot produced by the fire. When odors travel on air currents to non-related areas, as in a hotel, these areas also require treatment.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord can help your business smell as it should once again. Call us at (978) 486-9868 for odor removal services tailored to your exact needs. We are always available to answer your questions, from that first phone call through the completion of the job.

The Unexpected Development of Mold Damage In Your Littleton Home
Degrading Blocks Let in Moisture Which Leads to Mold Damage in Littleton Homes--Call SERVPRO for Remediation
The Quality of Building Materials Can Affect the Advance of Mold Growth--SERVPRO Can Cleanup and Remediate Fungi
Did you know that the block used in the construction of your Littleton home’s basement might have been the best building materials of that time, but the process to make these blocks changes on a regular basis? The more that companies learn about the effects that certain conditions have on concrete and blockwork over time, the more the formula for these building materials change to fair better over time against these elements based on the region and conditions. The unfortunate side of this is that unless you have a brand new home, the building materials used to construct it are well on their way to degradation and vulnerability to water penetration.
Your home is not likely going to give out all at once in these critical areas, however. No, this process begins by allowing small bits of water through vulnerable cracks or crumbling mortar joints. The result is moisture and dampness, which provide the ideal conditions to support fungal growth. Mold damage in your Littleton home can occur quickly, and with little warning, so diligence in inspecting areas like your basement can save you a lot of time and money when it comes to SERVPRO mold remediation efforts.
Mold damage is a serious concern for you as a homeowner, and this stretches far beyond the observed health effects attributed to exposure to the colonies present in your house. The longer that mold colonies get left to grow and thrive, the deeper the damage that they do and force situations which require replacement of structural components like wood framing, drywall, and flooring in affected areas.
Sanding and scraping are crucial components of our remediation process, especially in areas where drywall and wood elements have gotten directly impacted by mold growth. This procedure penetrates beyond the surface to remove the entire organism. In areas where the damage is widespread, a chemical solution can get sprayed onto the framing, and organic materials by our IICRC certified SERVPRO professionals in the area to reach the seated organism hiding below the surface you can see. These antimicrobial agents destroy hyphae, the root-like anchors of many species of fungi.
While this is just a small piece of the entire remediation process, our SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord team gets well equipped to handle any mold damage you might experience in your home. Trust our experienced team to help you get rid of this fungal growth and reclaim your home. Give us a call anytime at (978) 486-9868.

SERVPRO Delivers On Odor Removal For Concord Businesses
Call SERVPRO to Eliminate Unpleasant Odors from Your Concord Office
From Eateries to Offices, SERVPRO Eliminates Odors
Any number of different causes can underlie an odor problem for a Concord business. Water and smoke damage after a catastrophic event are obvious reasons, but other sources of unpleasant smells can include mold, decaying organic matter, and even volatile organic compounds from remodeling or planned maintenance. We invest in the training and equipment to solve these smelly challenges.
Odors in a Concord commercial location are unacceptable, especially if your customers or guests notice and it decreases their approval of your business. Our odor removal specialists complete IICRC certification as Odor Control Technicians and then employ a number of strategies to eliminate malodors.
Removing debris and thorough cleaning often does the trick. Odor control is almost always one of the final steps in a fire, water, or mold remediation, becoming the focus after cleanup and other restorative tasks fail to eradicate lingering smells. Professionally formulated sprays and treatments that use enzymes work on some smells. Our SERVPRO also invests in innovative equipment such as thermal foggers and hydroxyl generators to neutralize odor-bearing particles at the molecular level if necessary.
Understanding how the smell invaded is the key to elimination. If the smell traces to a dead animal discovered in a storage area, the surfaces it infiltrated can need sealing. Smoky smells respond to thermal fogging, as the super-heated delivery of the deodorizer replicated the way the smell spread through the space. Equipment is available to produce neutralizing particles that seek out odiferous airborne or settled and embedded molecules, an exciting and compelling option that manages a broad range of stenches. Our SERVPRO employees are well-versed on the tactics the restoration industry finds to be best practices to deal with hard to eliminate smells.
Do-it-yourself remedies a business or a traditional cleaning service might try often result in a short-term effect. The smell can fade, but then return over time or when the indoor environment changes. Cover-ups are not a sustainable answer and can add to the unpleasant odor load and even cause irritation to your customers and employees. SERVPRO odor removal services offer a permanent remedy to this frustrating problem, not just a temporary masking solution.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is ready to get to the root of your odor issues and resolve them. Call (978) 486-9868 for an evaluation and to schedule odor removal treatments that work.

Evacuating Before Flooding Crests in Hudson Could Avoid Some Safety Risks
SERVPRO Suggests After Evacuation Due to Flooding, Call Us for Water Removal and Mitigation Services
SERVPRO Advises Residents in Hudson that Safety First Regarding Storm and Flood Conditions
While evacuating your home can be difficult in the face of a major storm, the safety benefits of such an action can often outweigh the deficits of leaving. Flood damage in Hudson can cause many dangerous and unpredictable consequences for people trapped in their homes, most of which can be avoided by temporarily evacuating to a safer area. Note that in some scenarios, staying in place may be less risky than seeking refuge elsewhere, especially if water blocks roadways. However, here are just a few of the risks you can avoid by vacating the area.
Even with your home doused in water, flood damage can cause Hudson homes to catch fire in many different ways. Electrical fires can start when water reaches electronic devices and power outlets. Heat and lighting fixtures may be damaged and set fire to nearby materials if floodwaters hit them and knock them over. In some cases, chemical fires may start as substances both within and from outside the home combine and react negatively. If you are still in your home when a fire starts, it may be difficult to escape with a flood added into the mix.
While most floods come and go quickly, some especially disastrous events can leave you in a perilous situation as water rises. Direct contact with standing water can expose you to dangerous bacteria, viruses, other pathogens, and fungi, and if your home occupies a single story, avoiding this contact may be impossible in some cases. However, a two-story structure offers refuge from most floodwaters, as water depth rarely rises above a single floor.
Floods can cause severe damage to the structural integrity of your home, even if it is a single story and of newer construction. Large volumes of water can rapidly disintegrate or even physically tear apart materials in your home, exacerbating existing problems and creating new ones. Particularly disastrous floods can even trap you in your home or cause personal injury. If you do remain in your home, try to stay on the high ground in a structurally stable location.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is ready to respond even in the midst of major storms. To start recovery of your home faster, call us at (978) 486-9868.

What Happens During and After Fire Damage to Your Acton Home?
Acton House Fire Cleanup and Restoration is a Job for SERVPRO
The Complexities of a House Fire in Acton Properties Require Professional Help for Cleanup--Call SERVPRO
Fire damage can be a devastating experience for any property owner. A fire can destroy your property and the contents. Understanding the theory of fire can help you deal with this unfortunate event.
Three components can wreak havoc on your Acton property during and after a fire incidence- Fire, Smoke, and Heat. All of these components can cause a different type of damage, and the restorability depends on which component has caused more damage.
Fire and Heat
Fire and heat are the most devastating component of a house fire. The heat generated during the fire can cause extensive damage to the non-combustible material in your home as well. In many cases, the material that is entirely or partially damaged in a fire needs to be replaced during the restoration process.
Smoke and Soot Residues
Smoke and soot arise if there is an imbalance in the three components (Fuel, Oxygen, and Heat) required for burning. In an ideal situation, the burning material combines with the oxygen to generate heat and carbon dioxide, and there is no smoke or soot residue. However, during a house fire, the conditions are far from ideal. As the oxygen supply is not optimal during a house fire and the varying types of fuel available, the material burns incompletely and generate smoke. SERVPRO technicians use various techniques to eliminate the damage caused by smoke and soot.
Smoke contains a variety of components including suspended particles, gasses, and aerosols. As the smoke particles are microscopic (About 0.1 to 4 microns in size), they can penetrate porous surfaces such as drywall and fabric and cause discoloration and odors. Once these particles settle on surfaces, it is called soot, which can be quite challenging to clean and can cause extensive damage to your house and belongings. SERVPRO technicians are IICRC certified and have years of experience in handling almost any type of smoke and soot residue. Hydroxyl generators, ozone machines, thermal foggers, and HEPA and carbon filter air scrubbers are key weapons in our arsenal to combat odors and floating particulates.
Fire damage restoration is a job for the professionals. We have all the equipment and expertise to get your home back to the pre-damage condition as soon as possible, "Like it never even happened."
Call SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord today at (978) 468-9868 to get fire and smoke damage cleanup and restoration services.

Why Your Marlborough Home Should Not Have A Wet Basement For Long
When Failed Construction Leads to a Wet Basement in Marlborough, Call SERVPRO to Extract the Water and Moisture
SERVPRO Says to Repair Water Damaged Areas in Your Marlborough Basement without Delay
There are plenty of emergency situations that you can face when you are a homeowner with sound explanations, but this is not always the case. When you are dealing with something like a wet basement in your Marlborough home, several different causes could be to blame for the situation. More importantly, this is a situation that requires your immediate attention to prevent various types of on-going damage.
Often, a wet basement in your Marlborough home indicates a failure of your foundation or elements like your sump pump. Discovering dampness or wetness to the area might, in fact, be an excellent means of identifying a potentially disastrous problem before it becomes a threat. This situation provides an opportunity for our SERVPRO restoration specialists to restore the current water damages and to prevent the problem from reaching a more extreme result in the future.
When your foundation begins to waiver in its duties of keeping moisture and water on the outside of your home, it rarely happens all at once. Dampness and wetness in your basement can be a clear indication of the structural integrity of this critical component of your house starting to degrade and wear. With the appropriate tools and experienced eyes, these vulnerable spots can get identified and repaired before further degradation occurs, permitting water to enter your home unabated. The scope of service depends on the needed products and procedures to rectify the issue of water intrusion or seepage. Simply applying a waterproofing formulation or even trenching along the exterior perimeter to control french drains and tiles may be in order. Hydrostatic concrete is also in our arsenal of products. Vapor barriers form an integral factor in the prevention of water seepage.
Additionally, your wet basement can allow for instances of mold growth. With naturally occurring mold spores in the air that we breathe, warm air and moisture are the only elements required for these spores to seat themselves on surfaces and form colonies. Resolving the dampness in the area through SERVPRO's dehumidification and drying processes can eliminate the components necessary to facilitate fungal growth.
From the moment that our restoration specialists arrive at your home, we assess the full scope of the damage to the basement and coordinate with you to map out a restoration plan. This visual inspection is critical to locating the source of the moisture and resolving this issue (when possible) to prevent this detrimental environment from continuing in the lower level of your home.
While a wet basement might not seem like a huge problem to discover, it could lead to much more disastrous results if it is not repaired and dried entirely. Call SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord today at (978) 486-9868.

Removing and Preventing Mold in Concord Attics
Moisture & Mold in a Concord Attic? Call SERVPRO to Fix Both Problems
SERVPRO Offers a Full Service of Mold Remediation and Insulation Installation
There is mold in every home in Concord. Specifically, there are mold spores in every home. In most of them, the spores are dormant, and these dry, microscopic specs pose no threat to the home itself or the residents inside.
When there is enough moisture, then the spores begin to expand and develop in Concord and other Massachusetts homes. Mold in the attic then becomes an issue for SERVPRO technicians to inspect, clean, and remove from the house, duplex, or apartment building.
Most of the moisture we find in a home which causes spores to become active is usually from a leaking pipe or a water line with a seep. In attics, the problem can often be poor insulation or simply not enough to protect the space and property stored under the roof.
When there is not enough insulation, more heat from the rooms below rises into the attic. This increased amount of warm, moist air comes in contact with the colder, dry air already present and forms moisture on the support beams and other surfaces.
When enough forms, it drips down onto the insulation and other surfaces, leaving pools of water that serve as perfect, little breeding spots for mold spores to expand and grow. The dripping water also compacts the insulation, especially blown-in insulation. Compacted insulation quickly loses its ability to reflect heat back into the home, which increases the amount of warm air that escapes into the attic, causing more drops of moisture to form.
If this happens, SERVPRO technicians must not only clean and remove the mold and puddles of water, but the compacted insulation as well. We can do this with a commercial grade vacuum and a hose that draws out the affected insulation into a sealed bag or another container for disposal. For tight areas where we cannot use the vacuum, we use long-handled tools to reach in and pull out clumps of compacted insulation.
Once we have the old insulation removed, technicians spray every surface with an anti-fungal agent to kill most remaining spores. If needed, we can also use a fogger device to fill the attic with the chemical cleaner to get into every nook and cranny we might not be able to reach otherwise.
Then, we allow the attic to completely dry. If we need to speed up the process, we can use air movers to force warm, dry air over the attic. Our last step is to replace the insulation with new and make certain to use enough to protect your home from further mold and to lower your heating bills.
Removing mold is never a simple process, but SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord can help you with every step, ensuring your home is clean, dry, and safe to live in once more. If you have, or suspect mold in your residence, call us today at (978) 486-9868.

Post-Fire Odor Control and Removal Helps Make a Marlborough Residence Habitable Again
Smoke from a Marlborough Housefire? Call SERVPRO to Freshen Up Your Home
SERVPRO's Expertise and Equipment Are the Answers to a Smoke Odor Removal Service
Housefires in Marlborough often mean lengthy rebuilding periods. However, that eventually ends, and the family can return home. With the home restored, nothing should hinder the family from enjoying their home once again. However, at times, a lingering problem does exist. This problem permeates almost everywhere and seems to become worse whenever heat or humidity rises.
Homeowners in Marlborough who return home after a fire often encounter an invisible problem that only odor control and elimination can solve. At SERVPRO, we use different machines to combat this problem. Highly effective against the particles left behind by even the most thorough cleaning work, hydroxyl and ozone-generating machines form invisible gases which quickly form molecular bonds with offending particles. Once bonded, the odor-causing compounds are rendered clean.
After the use of either of these two gas-producing machines, a waiting period for the gas to work follows. Once complete, we, along with the homeowners, check to determine the need for additional odor control measures. The presence of slight odors remaining can often mean that when warmer weather begins, those almost imperceptible scents currently experienced can quickly become much worse.
In conditions warranting extra odor control, we use thermal fogging. Mimicking the smoke that once permeated into tiny cracks, crevices, and spaces, thermal fogging can efficiently remove the ability of smoke particles to disintegrate and float back into the air. Because we use a forced fogging method, this works quickly.
Closing doors and leaving your home fogged with special chemicals that leave little to no residue, your home can soon smell fresh, clean, and healthy once again. Waiting times for the fog to work range from half an hour to less than two hours, with ventilation times running a bit less. Individuals with respiratory diseases or other concerns should speak with the physician about any concerns.
Our IICRC-certified Odor Control Technician (OCT) knows that while some odors remain so slight that some individuals never notice them while other individuals experience discomfort from these same odor-causing particles. Every individual reacts uniquely, and our goal is to make your home smell "Like it never even happened," for every member of your family.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord wants to help you make your home smell like it should, smoke-free and clean. Call us at our round-the-clock service line at (978) 486-9868. Locally owned and operated, we are always ready to help those in our community.

Getting The Odor Out Of Your Marlborough Business
SERVPRO Eliminates Odors that Affect Commercial Buildings in Marlborough
SERVPRO Assesses and Eliminates Sources of Odors and Improves IAQ to Commercial Buildings
Maybe you are coping with a lingering smoke odor after a fire at your Marlborough business. Moldy areas can emit that musty smell even after remediation. Traumatic or criminal events also have residual aromas that are unpleasant and upsetting to employees and customers. Use the expertise of our deodorizer specialists to eliminate the odor.
When planning for odor removal in your Marlborough shop, hotel, restaurant, factory, or other business our crews follow a step by step process. Each step may be repeated until the odor is removed entirely. Some of the processes involve cleaning and disposal of smelly residues. Others use advanced technology to rid the area of the smell in other ways. We are confident that our crews can find a solution to even the toughest odor problems.
The first attempts to rid the areas affected are pretty intuitive. We discuss what the owner, manager, and employees of the business feel might be the source of the smell. Then we scour the area to look for remnants that may have gone undiscovered. Odor removal typically improves Indoor Air Quality, IAQ. For example, if the smell is linked to dead animals all carcasses must be found, bagged, and discarded properly.
The SERVPRO team also looks for residues that make surfaces smell. Soot and smoke are typical examples, but a crime scene could have pepper spray or tear gas remnants. The residues are cleaned off as thoroughly as possible, and we may use heat to drive the odor vapors out of porous articles.
Next, persisting odors may respond to professional air spray deodorizers. SERVPRO employees try to replicate the way the odor was dispersed originally to capture and eliminate the smell. Smoky odors are often defeated by thermal fogging, where deodorants are combusted in a heat chamber, and then fogged in an area. The deodorant particles cling to odor particles and neutralize them at a molecular level.
Hydroxyl generators emit tiny particles that also latch onto the smelly bits, airborne and on surfaces, and change the chemical composition to eliminate the odor. SERVPRO may use ozone in certain circumstances, but only when other attempts are unsuccessful.
Sealing in odors is an option when you do not want to discard articles that may carry the smell. Sealing is not always the perfect solution but can work well with other strategies. SERVPRO crews are relentless until one of the efforts works and the smell is gone.
If persistent odors plague your commercial space, rely on SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord to find a deodorizing solution that is permanent. Call (978) 486-9868 to schedule an odor eliminating consultation.

What To Do When You Discover Your Marlborough Home Has A Wet Basement
Don't Wait, Call SERVPRO to Restore and Prepare Your Basement for Waterproofing in Marlborough
Damp and Wet Basements Can Get Remediation from SERVPRO
Your Marlborough home might not be decades old, but that does not mean that it does not have structural concerns that could threaten to cause you problems in the future. Any home is only as good as the contractors that built it, and this goes down to each block that was laid to construct your basement walls and foundation of your home. Small imperfections or the lack of having full mortar joints can allow for water to eventually penetrate through from the exterior to your basement.
The trouble is, you may not even notice this happening when it first begins. The symptoms of failing waterproofing efforts and structural concerns of your foundation might only present themselves as some excess moisture in the air of your lower levels. As the problem worsens over time, you find yourself struggling to understand your wet basement of your Marlborough home. While this might not seem like a huge deal at first, there are several impending threats that this discovery could later mean for you and your home.
Wetness and warmer temperatures can combine with mold spores that naturally occur in the air to form fungal growths throughout your basement level. With the health effects that mold can cause to you and your family, this possible threat requires professional mold remediation services from certified and trusted professionals like our technicians at SERVPRO.
Cutting off the source of the water getting into your basement must be a priority, and our SERVPRO professionals are well equipped to handle this task as well. We can patch holes and cracks in your foundation with durable hydraulic cement or completely encapsulate crawl spaces that allow excess moisture and water to reach the walls of your foundation unabated. We can advise you of negative grading or improper landscaping that can facilitate the infiltration of water and moisture. Perhaps, a sump pump or dehumidifier can help to rectify current and potential water damaging conditions.
If you have recently discovered that your basement is unexplainably wet, you should give our SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord team of restoration specialists a call. We can help you to dry up this level of your house and prevent further damage by cutting off the source of the intruding water. You can reach us 24/7 by just calling (978) 486-9868.

Handle Your Wet Basement Issue Quickly In Your Marlborough Home
Drainage Systems Protect Marlborough Basements and Foundations from Flooding Damages
SERVPRO Offers Solutions to Flooded and Damp Basements
As if the severe weather passing through Marlborough was not enough, improperly waterproofed foundations can allow moisture and water in through cracks and mortar joints that were not full. Your basement should not be permitted to stay moist or wet though because several potential problems could arise.
When you consider a wet basement in your Marlborough home, many people weigh all of the things that they have stored in the lower levels of their home that could become irreparably damaged by the presence of pooling water. The possibility of flooding from torrential weather could be a distinct possibility if your foundation has already become compromised. Even smaller amounts of water penetrating to the inside and entering your basement could spell trouble in this case.
If you notice that the walls of your foundation are wet following a moderate rain shower, this is something that you need to correct as soon as you are able. The problem with the foundation is going to get worse, as the presence of water erodes even the most durable of mortar joints without adequate waterproofing. The best thing that you can do is to call our experienced and reliable SERVPRO team of technicians to assess the problem and get to work quickly on a solution.
As you well know, storms can pop up at a moment’s notice. With this being a distinct likelihood, the longer you wait to fix a foundation problem, the more wet basement issues that you have. Our SERVPRO professionals can address precisely where the water is penetrating, and coat the area with hydraulic cement and masonry cement to successfully stop water from getting in. Then, the restoration process involves pulling moisture from the air using dehumidifiers and thoroughly drying up the presence of any lingering water that got inside before the holes were sealed. These steps go a very long way in preventing the possibility of mold growth in the basement of your home.
Foundation leaks are not entirely uncommon to Marlborough homes, but it is something that you should address as soon as you can. Give SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord a call. You can reach us anytime at (978) 486-9868.

Why Do You Need Professional Fire Damage Restoration After a Fire to Your Littleton Property?
Odors from Fires? Call SERVPRO to Freshen Up Your Littlleton Home
Smoke and Soot Particles and Odors Need SERVPRO Restoration Methodologies for Comprehensive Cleanups
Fire damage to your home can be a traumatic experience for any homeowner. Apart from the damage due to the heat, fire can cause significant damage to your property and belongings due to smoke and soot. The smoke particles can coat walls, ceilings, and almost any surface and cause permanent damage if not cleaned quickly and efficiently.
The particles in the smoke contain unburned carbon that can be very difficult to remove after a fire to your Littleton property. Furthermore, not all soot particles are alike, and it takes a multi-step process to eliminate them. It is a job for the professionals who have years of training and expertise in fire damage restoration. Here are some of how professionals get rid of the smoke and soot damage from your property.
Strategies are developed based on the type of soot residue
The plan to restore the smoke damage depends on the type of smoke residue. Here at SERVPRO our team of expert restorers evaluates the type of smoke residue and prepares a plan accordingly. The dry smoke residue is easier to clean compared to the wet smoke residue. As dry smoke residue does not stain the surface as intensely as wet smoke residue, it is easier to remove by wiping. Our IICRC certifies technicians use less aggressive methods to clean such films.
Wet smoke residues, on the other hand, are significantly more difficult to clean. SERVPRO technicians use a variety of methods such as wet-cleaning, foam-cleaning and abrasive cleaning to mitigate the damage caused by wet smoke residues. The heat streams during a fire can drive these smoke particulates deep into cracks and crevices and porous surfaces further exacerbating the cleanup difficulty.
Smoke and soot pose another challenge during the restoration process- the odor. If proper precautions are not used during the restoration process, the odor can linger on long after the fire. SERVPRO technicians use equipment such as Ultra Low Volume (ULV) foggers, heat foggers, deodorizing beads and other methods to combat the odors after a fire. Our technicians have years of experience in managing odors after fires of all sizes. We get your home smelling like home again in no time.

Mold Damage from Rapid Microbial Proliferation Harms Homes in Concord
Mold Needs Moisture to Grow in Concord Bathrooms, Call SERVPRO for Remediation
Mold Spores in Concord Properties Can Be Controlled from Causing Damage--Ask SERVPRO How
Microbes outnumber humans and other much larger living creatures at astronomical ratios. This is true worldwide, and every home in Concord contains its fair share of these microorganisms. Not to worry, though, as this natural occurrence is something that homeowners can easily keep under control to prevent adverse impact on their properties.
Concord residents can control microbial growth and avoid mold damage to their property if they keep a few facts about these plentiful microorganisms in mind. Mold and mildew meet their needs by taking advantage of the location in which they settle.
Brought into your home through many different means, pieces of mold become airborne quickly. Air currents direct these microorganisms and their spores to the same locations as moist air. When the humidity in the air comes in contact with cooler surfaces, condensation forms, collecting water which microbes then put to use.
Much of the typical home materials used today contain substantial amounts of cellulose and other organic matter. Even when treated with preservative agents, microbes can use these organic-based materials as a plentiful food source. Moisture and food closely positioned expedite microbial colonization to start and then thrive, allowing for the rapid takeover of large areas of your home. SERVPRO technicians can inspect areas of your home for accumulated moisture that provides this conducive condition for mold remediation.
It is virtually impossible to keep microbes away from their food source inside your home, even if your home consists of brick or concrete. This is why many businesses experience problems with mold and mildew. Dust that accumulates in the natural pits, grooves, and indentations in these harder materials provides adequate food for microbes solely on their surfaces. Concrete and brick can also collect more moisture than other materials found in a home because moisture condenses on them more readily than on other surfaces that remain closer to the temperature of the air.
The certified technicians at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord have the training and certification from the IICRC in Applied Microbial Remediation (AMRT). We quickly restore homes, so everything is “Like it never even happened” once again for our customers. When you locate mold damage in your home, on any surface, call us at (978) 486-9868 to talk to us about our 24-hour services and how they can help remediate your home.

The Reality of Sump Pump Failure For Your Marlborough Home
SERVPRO Helps with Sump Pump Failures Leading to Water Damage in Marlborough
Water Damage Potential in Your Basement Is Reduced with a Functioning Sump Pump
Sump pumps are standard tools used in many Marlborough homes. These devices help to keep water from accumulating in your basement (or other low-lying areas of your home or garage.) With specific homes being regular victims of flooding situations, these tools help to remove the water from the basement and simultaneously prevent moisture from building up. They are not impervious to ordinary wear and tear, however, especially in situations where they are invariably running.
Sump pump failure in your Marlborough home is nearly impossible to detect. You often cannot know it has stopped working until you have to experience for yourself the conditions of your basement when it malfunctions. Unfortunately, for many people, this means that you have to wait until flooding conditions are present, and then you see that the sump pump you have installed is no longer functioning to remove the excess water from your home.
While it would not hurt to attempt to check the breaker box to ensure that the fuse associated with your sump pump has not tripped, only do so if you are not standing in water at the breaker box. Most commonly, these pumps merely fall apart over time, much like any appliance or machinery that you purchase for your home. In these cases of equipment failure, it is not wise to wait out the storm to contact SERVPRO for assistance.
Our team of emergency response SERVPRO technicians can remove the water quickly from the area with the use of wet vacs and pumps of various GPM ratings. The objective is twofold: prevent water from continuing to come into the basement, and to remove all of the water that has penetrated the walls so far. Once the water gets removed, damage assessment can begin, and the sump pump can be accessed and replaced.
Do not wait for the problem to get worse before you call. While you cannot predict when your sump pump might fail, you can always call us at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord to be there when you need us. Call us 24/7 at (978) 486-9868.

Recovering From Fire Damages To Your Hudson Home
Don't Get Caught Sleeping on a Burning Sofa in Your Hudson Home--Call SERVPRO for Cleanup
SERVPRO Provides Proven Methods for Smoke & Fire Cleanup and Recovery
Faulty wiring in your Hudson home has left you with a substantial loss. While you are considering all of your options, facing the devastating damage, you are not sure what to do next. The local fire department responded quickly, which allowed you to be able to keep a significant portion of the house untouched by the damaging blaze, but now you have to figure out how to restore that affected area to your preloss condition.
There are many times that this kind of disaster is unavoidable. If you are dealing with fire damage to your Hudson home, you might be curious as to what you can do. We at SERVPRO have spent years dealing with all manner of fire damages, from structural fires down to small kitchen blazes that sprung from faulty appliances or unattended cooking. While each case might prove very different, our team approaches each one with the same care and consideration that serves as the foundation of our reputation.
Our thoughtful approach starts with the understanding that this is the one place you know and love, and your home is vital to you. This knowledge makes your home important to us as well. That is why when you call you are not asked to wait. Someone is dispatched to respond and begin putting together a plan to restore the damages you have experienced right away, pending contractual agreement. Our emergency team can clean up the mess, remove the lingering odors, and restore the damages.
Depending on the severity of the incident, there could be some items in your house that just cannot be restored. However, most of the affected area can usually be cleaned and returned to preloss condition. Cleanup goes beyond the scrubbing of the walls with our equipment to remove soot, but it also involves concentrated restoration efforts on heirlooms, electronics, furniture, drapes, and flooring.
Removing the lingering smell is something people want to do the most. Even if the house remains someplace you can live after a damaging fire, the smoke and burning smell can often make it uninhabitable. Our high tech SERVPRO equipment comes into play at this point. With fogging systems, deodorizing sprays can react with the odor molecules and neutralize them. Instead of masking the scent, this process ultimately removes the molecules that caused the odor in the first place. For large fire damaging events we can set up air scrubbers and ozone machines to change the chemical composition of the odorous compounds and render them odorless.
If you are in need of fire restoration and odor removal services, our emergency mitigation team is always on call. Reach out to SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord by calling (978) 486-9868.

Drying a Wet Basement After a Storm in Marlborough
Stormwater and Waterproofing in Marlborough by SERVPRO
Flooding, Water Extraction, and Drying--Call SERVPRO
Marlborough has had fewer storms this year, but it is not over yet. Winter weather can tear into a home from top to bottom, causing storm damage issues at every level.
After a storm, a Marlborough wet basement usually means there is more damage than just floodwater. There was a pathway for enough of it to get in and leave more water than a mop and a shop-vac can handle. SERVPRO technicians are trained to remove the water, find out how it got in, and lower the risk of a flood happening again.
If the water level is more than ankle high, we bring in a commercial grade pump to remove it. Even in a larger home, we can clear the excessive in a single morning or afternoon. For lower levels of water, we bring in water extraction wands and other suctioning devices. These devices are designed to draw water off of floors and out of carpets without harming the surface or tearing up the nape. Contaminated water always plays a role in salvaging materials.
As SERVPRO technicians remove the water, one of our inspectors determines how it got in. Since the problem appeared after a storm, the inspector looks at the foundation walls which make up the basement for seepage points and cracks. Cracks are easy to spot, but a seepage point often looks like any other patch of rough surface on the exposed cinder blocks.
To seal and cover the damage, we use hydraulic cement to fill in the cracks and seepage points. When we complete that, we cover the entire wall surfaces with masonry cement. It is a thin coating that adheres to the surface and forms a waterproof barrier.
The water should be stopped before it gets into the foundation though. Once we have the inside taken care of, the inspector moves outside the home. Our recommendation is to allow us to dig out around the home and expose the foundation walls where we perform the same inspection as we did inside. We seal any cracks and seepage points with the hydraulic cement, but we cover the outside walls with a liquid rubber compound. The only way water gets past these barriers afterward, is if there is enough damage to shift the house even partially off of its foundation walls and pad.
Having a wet basement is not the worst problem to have, but it is a very good indicator that there may be more severe problems. If you have a flooded basement or are concerned about keeping it dry this coming winter, contact us here at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord. Call today at (978) 486-9868 for more details or to schedule a visit.

Remediating Black Mold in Concord Homes
Mold Remediation--Black, Green, Brown--All the Same SERVPRO Treatment in Concord
SERVPRO Offers a No-Scare Mold Remediation Service
Black Mold are two words that scare Concord homeowners and the general population for no good reason. Every type of mold can cause damage to a private home, duplex or apartment complex. There are more myths associated with black mold than there are facts published about it.
Having black mold in a Concord home does not mean everyone is at risk for lung infections or other health problems. The only people at risk with any mold are those individuals with highly sensitive allergies or have compromised or weakened immune systems. Mold can cause health effects.
Our first task is to stop further growth. The simplest way we accomplish this task is to find the moisture that is allowing the mold to expand and grow, looking for a food source and replicating across a home. This source can be relatively small, a tiny leak from a damaged roof or a small pool behind a rusting water heater can result in mold spreading through a large area.
SERVPRO response teams have an extensive network of cleaning agents and tools available to destroy active mold and render it harmless. As an example, If the mold is found in a tight area like in an attic or other crawlspaces, we use a combination of anti-fungal chemicals and a fogging device to create a cloud of mold killer. We force this agent into the enclosed space using a combination of fans and air movers to direct it to the affected surfaces. This method is also very useful in killing mold in the space behind walls.
Once we stop active growth, we remove any items that not cleanable. Drywall and other building material are easily compromised by mold, with the spores sending extensions into the panels to feed and continue growing. Our technicians carefully bag and remove damaged material to avoid accidentally spreading mold spores to unaffected areas of the home.
Removing black mold or any other infestation from your home is not an easy or quick process. SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord understands that it is not the end of your home, nor is it a threat to your health. For more information on how we treat and remediate this or any disaster, contact us at (978) 486-9868. We are here to help.

Replacing Burst Pipes in Marlborough
Ice Dams and Frozen Pipes Lead to Water Damage in Marlborough Properties--Prepare and Prevent
Frozen Plumbing Often Leads to Water Damage--Call SERVPRO
Fall in Marlborough is the perfect time for watching the leaves turn and doing all of the tourist things that even us locals enjoy. We do not admit it of course, but everyone likes chestnuts and hot cider. It is also the time to find out the overnight cold snaps have left us an unwanted gift or two around our homes.
Unlike other types of water damage in Marlborough, burst pipes can cause problems from the roof down. Many homes still have their water tank in the attic or have pipes running from the tank across to other parts of the house. With almost thirty years in our area, SERVPRO can repair the problem or suggest one of our trade partners, remediate any damage, and prepare your home for the coming winter.
The quickest way to halt the problem is to replace the pipe of course. Our technicians can remove and replace open pipes not covered by a wall or ceiling in an hour or two. If the pipe cracked or sheared off at a connection, we have the tools ready to cut the damaged section out, replace it, coupling and all, in a single afternoon.
If the pipe is behind a laundry or bathroom wall, SERVPRO can swiftly deal with that as well. A technician first cuts away a section of drywall to determine the extent of the damage. If nearby panels are soaked, we usually recommend replacing them. It is much faster and the cost to replace is cheaper than the labor hours needed to try and dry the panels in place. It is true also for the panels we have to remove to get to the burst pipes.
Once everything is back in place, we examine the area where the pipe burst and similar areas to determine if we can prevent it from happening again. We usually find that poor insulation is the problem. Foam core pipe insulation is relatively inexpensive and can prevent a second visit from us as well as hundreds or thousands of dollars in future replacement costs. Our technicians can use it in attics and basements, as well as behind every wall in the home if needed.
At SERVPRO of Marlborough /Concord, we want to keep our neighbors safe and dry. If you have a leak in your home or have questions about how to prepare for winter, call us today at (978) 486-9868. We are here to help.

Insulation Removal in Marlborough
Water Damaged Insulation Removal is Essential in Marlborough Attics, Call SERVPRO
Marlborough Attics and Homes Suffer from Ruined Insulation
Colder temperatures are coming soon for Marlborough. That means beautiful fall foliage and tourists driving up to see it all. Right now is also the perfect time to check roofs and attic insulation; especially after the rain and storms, we have had this year.
Insulation Removal in a Marlborough home is a difficult task; more so after water damage. SERVPRO can usually remove most attic insulation with a commercial vacuum pump, but moisture now clumps the ordinarily loose fibers. The task now requires additional labor and the use of hand tools to clear out the blown-in insulation which now looks like an attic full of clumps.
Water-soaked insulation compacts, reducing its effectiveness to help warm your home. Eventually, it compacts enough so that heating costs rise and a home grows colder with no overhead layer to stop heat conduction through the roof. It takes one of our work crews about a full day to remove insulation with the commercial vacuum. Depending on how much we have to remove by hand, the entire task could take two to three days.
Before we replace the insulation, we want to ensure the environment is dry. One of our technicians measures the humidity in the attic, and if it is high, we set up dehumidifiers to draw down the moisture in the air. We also inspect for mold growth activity and can apply an antifungal agent to purge the wetted areas of mold spores and colonies. If framing or support beams are very damp, we may also use air movers. These devices are designed to blow warm, dry air over a damp surface, forcing moisture out where it is drawn in by the dehumidifiers.
For homes that are insulated with rolls of batten-type insulation, the process is different. Regardless, removal is possible, and feasible, under the right circumstances.
An inspection is also an excellent prevention tool. Even if the insulation is in optimal condition, a damaged and leaking roof can change that after one heavy snowfall. SERVPRO technicians are trained to perform construction tasks from repairing a few panels due to dry rot to replacing the entire roof.
The weather is fair now, but showers and much colder temperatures are just a few days away. If your insulation is not performing as it should or if you want to have it checked before the next rain; contact us here at SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord. To find out more about how we can protect your home, call (978) 486-9868.

How Wet Carpet in a Concord Home Can Create a Much Bigger Disaster
SERVPRO Gives Your Concord Property the Red Carpet Treatment for Water Damage Restoration
SERVPRO Can Restore Water Damaged Carpets If Called Quickly to Your Concord Property
Moisture in carpets and rugs can quickly become a costly and headache-inducing factor for the unprepared. While quick implementation of drying plans and treatments can stop most long-term damage from happening, many homeowners never get the chance to stop damage early. Instead, they must deal with the effect of a wet carpet in their Concord homes after water has already soaked in and started to cause problems. Without proper and timely care, these unwanted effects may strike your home's carpeting.
Some types of wet carpet in Concord homes may bleed their colors into nearby flooring materials, furniture, walls, and other carpets. Color bleed can not only destroy the carpet in question but also create expensive repainting, refinishing, and replacement tasks elsewhere. The longer a carpet or rug is allowed to remain wet, the more pronounced its color bleed becomes, making quick reactions indispensable in limiting the reach of this type of damage.
Warping and Shrinking
If the carpet is allowed to dry on its own terms, it is highly likely to begin to bend and warp. Tack strips and other objects on the floor may also contribute to rips and tears in the material, creating elements of damage that are not often fixable. Most carpeting SERVPRO replaces rather than restores has shrunk or warped beyond repair.
Allowing water to remain past its due in a carpet paves the way for mold growth. Mold grows easily in the twisting, nutrient-rich fibers of most types of carpeting, and ample moisture provides the last piece in the puzzle that allows mold to flourish in your carpet. While SERVPRO technicians are IICRC trained to look for and take care of mold growth should it arise, the best way to conserve costs and prevent further damage to your home is to react quickly to water damage and prevent mold from getting any chance to grow in the first place.

How Littleton Homeowners Can Prevent Fire Damage With Wood Stove Safety
SERVPRO Tip--Prevent Fire Damage in Little and Keep Your Chimney Clean
Inspections and Cleanings by SERVPRO Can Mitigate Fires
Wood stoves are popular with some homeowners. They provide heat as well as looking attractive and a little bit rustic, especially during the cold fall and winter days that are so common in Massachusetts. A wood-burning stove is comforting and cute and who does not enjoy the crackle of a real fire? Unfortunately for Littleton homeowners, wood stoves are also a fire risk. That is why SERVPRO recommends being cautious and taking precautions to keep wood stoves safe.
There are several steps Littleton wood stove owners can adopt to reduce the risk of fire damage. It does not take much effort to secure a wood-burning stove and make it safer, thus protecting your home from a potential blaze.
Proper clearance from surrounding materials is a must. Check the manufacturer’s instructions or get your burner professionally installed to make sure there is enough space at the front, back, top, bottom, and sides.
A proper chimney is required. Chimneys should be UL-listed and constructed in such a way as to be safe for use with your stove (lined or double bricked are standard). Do not use an unlined, single brick chimney for a wood burning stove under any circumstances.
Good ventilation is a must. Ventilation problems are a leading cause of wood stove related home fires. The vents connecting the stove to the chimney must be as short as possible, with no more than two ninety-degree bends. Fasten stovepipes securely, and make sure the seams between sections overlap. Improper ventilation can lead to emergency health hazards.
Wood-fired burners require cleaning at least once a year. The stove itself, the stovepipes, and the chimney, all need a thorough cleaning. If you cannot do it yourself, call in a professional to do it for you.
Avoid creosote buildup. Creosote is highly flammable and builds up when the stove burns at a relatively low temperature, thus failing to release combustible gases to the atmosphere, so they stick to the stove and form creosote. You can scrub away some black deposits with a wire brush, but some adhere firm and require a professional chimney sweep.
In the unfortunate event of fire damage, SERVPRO’s IICRC-certified technicians are on hand to assist with cleanup. We arrive equipped with heavy-duty cleaning equipment to deal with soot damage and take care of deodorizing your home after cleaning is complete.
For help with soot cleanup in Acton, Bolton, Maynard, Hudson and surrounding areas, call SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord at (978) 486-9868 for assistance.

SERVPRO / GreenSky Financing Help for Marlborough Area Homeowners
SERVPRO Partners with GreenSky to Help with Financing of Mold, FIre & Smoke or Water Damage Restoration in the Greater Marlborough Area
Help Is Here with Mold, Fire, or Water Damaging Restorations Costs
We try to reduce the cost of remediation and restoration, but the amount to a customer can quickly run into thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars. Groundwater flooding is often not covered by homeowner insurance policies. If you had never purchased insurance or perhaps let it lapse when the economy was tight, this entire amount can come down on you just as hard as the original disaster.
In situations where there is no insurance coverage for a loss, some Marlborough residents may attempt to clean-up their property without a professional service like SERVPRO. Do-it-yourself may be fine if only a few dozen gallons of water from a split washing machine hose spread across an empty garage floor. However, when the problem is hundreds of gallons over carpets or wood floors, attempting to clean or remove them as a DIY project often causes more problems and higher costs.
We believe we have found a solution for homeowners caught in this situation. Our office has recently partnered with GreenSky, a company that specializes in approving installment loans to people in this situation, and the approval happens much faster than most other lenders. The company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia and has loaned over $8 Billion to homeowners in need of restoration funding.
Our office has trained and been approved by GreenSky's financial program to help our customers finance their restoration projects. We can assist an individual in getting loans with competitive rates and regular monthly payments, compared to the exorbitant rates and payments from a large credit card transaction. We have the options to assist by filling out an online application at our office or over the phone, and thanks to GreenSky’s new Mobile App, we can even get a customer approved for a loan on site at your home within minutes of arriving at the front door.
Other than the fast approval, this is not a rush loan in any other sense. GreenSky understands that the restoration process can take weeks or months depending on the level of the damage. Recipients have up to four months to exhaust the amount of their loan with our office. It is not a short-term loan with a limited 18-month payment structure. Qualified customers can spread their payments up to as long as 84 months (7 years) or 96 months (8 years).
For more details about what SERVPRO of Marlboro /Concord can do for you after a disaster and how our new partner, GreenSky can make it affordable, visit us at http://www.SERVPROmarlboroconcord.com or call us today at (978) 486-9868.
Marlborough Wet Basement and Water Damage
Basement Water Proofing Helps Prevent Water Damage in Marlborough Homes
Water Seepage Results in Damages to Many Basements and Crawl Spaces
Constant drips and puddles are fine for kids playing outside, but not when they are playing in the basement. Regardless if it is a finished room or just a considerable crawl space, it needs to be safe and dry for the residents and property security.
A wet basement in your Marlborough home may start as a nuisance, but it can become a source of mold and ruined belongings. If the room is not cleaned and dried, the growth can result in damage to property and, eventually, the structure itself. At SERVPRO, we understand just how much damage water and mold can cause a home and how to stop it.
For significant amounts of standing water, we bring in portable pumps powerful enough to force water up the stairs and outside the home. When there is only a small amount of water, technicians draw it out using water extraction wands, and even mops. These devices work well on concrete, wood floors, and carpets.
As we remove the water, SERVPRO technicians start the process to reduce the humidity. If water has been in the basement for an extended period, humidity levels are higher than normal. To lower them, we install dehumidifiers to draw water out of the air at a rate of up to 25 gallons per day and commercial grade space heaters to raise the temperature enough to help the dehumidifiers work more efficiently.
Once the basement is dry, we check for hidden leaks and cracks. If the source of the water is a leaking pipe, we can repair or replace it in less than a day. If there are cracks in the walls, we clean them and then fill them in using a hydraulic cement. This adhesive is an excellent barrier against water. When it is dry, we cover the area and recommend covering all of the basement walls, with a layer of masonry cement. This second type of cement is a superb seal to prevent leaks and seepage from the outside.
A wet basement is not the worst problem to have in your home, but you should resolve it as soon as possible. If you have it as a recurring situation, contact SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord to help. Call us at (978) 486-9868 to schedule an initial inspection today.

Marlborough Duct Work Maintenance Avoids Winter Woes
Duct Cleaning in Marlborough by SERVPRO Saves You Many and Provides Better Indoor Air Quality
Keep Cool & Warm When SERVPRO Inspects and Cleans HVAC Systems
The duct work in Marlborough homes and businesses is designed to handle changes in temperature, even extreme weather like we have seen over the last couple of years. There are still weak points in every system though, and they are not always easy to see until the seasons change and suddenly the monthly heating or cooling bill skyrockets.
Preparing the duct work in a Marlborough home or business for the winter is not technically challenging, but the task still needs a professional service to ensure the job is completed right the first time. SERVPRO has extensive experience with duct work and HVAC systems in Massachusetts. Proper circulation of air in furnace systems helps reduce the chance of puff backs resulting in messy, costly cleanup. Checking for clean filters, and vacuuming out ducts when needed can also ensure a better quality of indoor air to the structure.
Often, the problems are caused by water from a leak in the roof or along the eaves of the home or commercial building. It can happen over a single season, summer or winter. When water collects on the surface of the ducts, nuts, bolts, and screws can rust. If the water drips down over the brackets, then the damage to the wood beams suspending the conduits can cause the screws or bolts to pull away and shift thanks to the weight of the system.
Moving ducts means they bend and the joints start to twist. Now, the inside air that is supposed to heat your home or business is leaking into the crawlspaces. Our technicians are trained to spot these problems and the potential for them.
The cost of replacement parts is usually cheap. Individual brackets and several handfuls of nuts and bolts only run a few dollars. Depending on the size and extent of the ducts, we can usually finish each job in a day or two. For large, commercial buildings, a full inspection, and repair may take four or five days total.
Our area has not been hit as hard by weather as other parts of the country, and the forecast looks fairly good as well. Now is the perfect opportunity to contact SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord to prepare your HVAC ducts for the coming winter. If you need our services, call today at (978) 486-9868.

We equip our teams with a range of perfectly calibrated instruments, including thermal hygrometers, moisture meters and probes, and thermal imaging software. Finally, thermal imaging techniques allow us to see hidden patches of moisture that we could not detect with the naked eye.
Once we have a clear overview of the situation in your premises, we devise a drying plan to restore it to the best temperature and humidity. Drying out something as large as a warehouse is a challenge, but do not worry. Using The Right Services To Combat Mold Damage In Your Concord Area Home
Mold Outside of a Petri Dish in a Concord Home Needs SERVPRO for Remediation
Mold Remediation in Concord Properties Is Handled by SERVPRO
Mold thrives in moist environments, basically anywhere in your home that has excessive moisture, humidity, or water leaks. Indoor mold colonies cause damage to surfaces they grow on including walls, ceilings, floors, carpeting, furniture, drapes, and any other organic materials.
Luckily there are quite a few steps for homeowners in Concord to take to reduce the amount of mold damage that occurs on their property. If you have already let things get out of control, contact a remediation expert, like SERVPRO, today. We can help you rid your living environment of this type of nuisance and teach you how to prevent growth in the future.
Knowledge is a great tool to have to battle mold growth in your home. Learning more about what mold is, how it acts, and which environments it can survive in can help prevent exposure to any risks involved. SERVPRO technicians thoroughly explain what is happening in your home and keep you informed throughout the remediation process.
Molds are fungi that are a naturally occurring recycler of organic materials within our environment, often helping decaying materials absorb back into our ecosystem. However, because molds take very little to survive, if given the right conditions, can invade your home and expose you to threats that can cause severe cosmetic and structural problems over time.
SERVPRO technicians provide the tools necessary to locate, control, and confine mold from spreading throughout your home. Using infrared cameras, thermal hygrometers, and moisture sensors for detection are needed. Water extractors, advanced drying equipment, and antifungal agents can reach cool, dark, humid areas of your home where mold often grows to eradicate and complete the remediation.
Do-it-yourselfers are often limited by what they can accomplish, leaving areas larger than 10-square feet more than they can easily handle on their own. A store bought wet-dry vac, and household cleaners often fail to do the job, adding moisture to the area, allowing mold to spread even further. This only aggravates an already difficult situation.
Avoid taking the risk of providing half-solutions to your problem, contact SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord today. We can provide you with the IICRC certified technicians necessary to get mold growth in your home under control, fast. (978) 486-9868

Business As Usual in Marlborough After SERVPRO Dries Wetted Carpets
Even as little as an inch or two of water in a retail or office setting, can soak a vast amount of carpeting. SERVPRO offers business owners the tools and technicians to dry out even acres of wet carpeting fast and efficiently.
A pipe burst in the wall you share with an adjoining shop, pouring water throughout your retail area. Wet carpeting extends for thousands of square feet in your Marlborough furniture showroom. You need professional water restoration help immediately, and reaching out to us, and our crews of carpet drying specialists, is the first step to putting this devastation behind you.
Even if the subfloor in a mall or shopping center is concrete, a brisk run over with a carpet cleaner is inadequate to manage soaked floor coverings. SERVPRO has industrial strength water extraction and drying equipment designed precisely for the crisis you face. Our technicians receive thorough and up to date training on water extraction techniques that remove the majority of the moisture but also protect the integrity of the carpeting.
Furnishings in your showroom must also be protected during the restoration, and prevented from staining or otherwise damaging the carpet. Our team moves through your store systematically, extracting the water and shifting your inventory, so it and the carpet escape further harm. Using foam blocks, foil-backed cardboard squares, or other appropriate aids, SERVPRO crew members keep the wood from bleeding its finish or absorbing moisture, and metal from rusting during the drying recovery period.
Chances are good we dry out the carpeting successfully in place. This task requires disengaging the carpeting enough from the subfloor to position air movers and dehumidifiers, directing air floor over and under the carpet. We often replace the padding as it disintegrates easily and adds a layer that impedes the carpeting from drying. Tack strips also must be monitored for retained moisture and may be replaced to avoid strips of dampness after the carpeting is returned and stretched.
Because of the risk of secondary harm, such as mold growth or delamination of the carpet from its backing, contact SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord as soon as possible after retail flooding. A call to (978) 486-9868 sets up an inspection and implementation of a drying plan within hours.

What Should You Do If You Find Mold In the Attic Of Your Marlborough Home?
Marlborough Mold Remediation and Cleaning It Up
Call SERVPRO for Mold Remediation
Mold in your attic is a problem that requires immediate remediation because if it is left unchecked, it can quickly spread to other areas of your home, and might also cause damage to the structure of your attic and any items that are stored there. Fungus likes damp environments, and an attic often provides just such an environment and might even become a rich breeding ground for more mold.
You might be wondering what to do if you find mold in the attic of your Marlborough home, or even how to tell if you have fungus growing there. Finding out whether you have mold is usually quite easy: Look for telltale patches of black or greenish discoloration and also take note of any moldy or musty smells.
Now you are sure you have mold, or at least strongly suspect that you do, it is time to call SERVPRO. We train our IICRC-certified technicians in all aspects of remediation. We start with asking some simple questions to get a clear picture of your situation and then we send out a fully equipped team to assess your attic and decide on the best course of action.
Is there anything you can do while you wait for our professional team to arrive? The answer is yes; there are some things you can do. If there is an obvious source of water or damp that you can remove safely, please do so. We recommend keeping the affected area dry. If you happen to have an HVAC system or fans running in your attic, turn those off too as they might help spread spores to other areas of your home.
If it is safe for you to remove porous materials you may do so, as porous materials also present a spreading risk; however please only carry out removal if you have protective equipment on hand to wear. Removal must be conducted slowly to avoid agitating the spores and causing further spreading – if in doubt do not do it.
SERVPRO recommends that you avoid touching or trying to spray or clean the mold and that you do not attempt to paint over affected areas.
Stay out of your attic until we arrive to assist you. Our experienced technicians come prepared to set up containment to prevent mold spreading to other parts of your home, and we use negative air machines to vent contaminated air outside your house. We also use a range of cleaning protocols including HEPA vacuuming, scrubbing, abrasion, and immersion to clean salvageable items and remediate mold growth on walls, floors or ceilings.
Do not ignore a mold problem in the attic of your home. Call SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord at (978) 486-9868 for help.

Concord Flood Damage Removal from Private Homes
Concord Properties Call On SERVPRO for Flood Water Removal
SERVPRO Extracts Standing Water Post Flooding Swiftly
Removing water from your home is a relatively simple task when it comes to pumping or extracting. The problems are usually timing and labor. When that water is contaminated, the costs and threats to your home and personal health quickly increase.
When it comes to restoring your Concord home and property from the effects of flood damage, SERVPRO looks for one of three categories of water: Clean, Gray and Black. We maintain a 24-hour response team to determine the category and determine what is needed to clean and restore your home.
Clean Water – This type of flood water poses no substantial risk to the health of the residents or our technicians. The restoration crews do not have to take any precautions before bringing in pumps or other water extraction tools to remove standing water or water trapped on carpets, floors, building material such as drywall, and personal property. To prevent clean water from crossing into the gray water category, we remove it as quickly as possible. Microbes present on surfaces and in the air are harmless until they have even a small amount of standing water to collect in and grow. Our technicians also begin work to lower the humidity level; drier air inhibits microbial growth as well.
Gray Water – This category contains low levels of contamination that can threaten the health of residents and anyone else who exposed to it. Contaminants include water from aquariums, urine, and wash water. Gray water becomes more contaminated very quickly with fungi or bacteria. Spores from these threats can become airborne and spread to parts of the home not affected by water. If unchecked, the spores grow into building material as well as become a health threat. To prevent this, technicians spray the water with an anti-fungal or anti-microbial agent before bringing in water extraction equipment.
Black Water – This is the most contaminated water. Most stormwater falls into this category, as run-off or water from a crested river also pulls in feces, sewage, and even dead animals from the outside. Contamination levels also depend on how far the water traveled before it entered your home. Other contaminants can include chemical and medical waste. Technicians don protective gear and spray black water before utilizing pumps. Our crews carefully watch every hose connection and ensure there are no leaks as they pump contaminated water into a holding tank or tank truck.
Restoring a home to its pre-flood state can be complicated and expensive. SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord is here to help our neighbors and fellow residents return to their normal life as soon as we can. Call us today at (978)486-9868 to begin.

Restoring Areas Impacted by Commercial Water Damage in the Historic Sites of Concord
Historic Homes in the Concord Area Deserve Water Damage Restoration from SERVPRO
SERVPRO Provides Quality Restoration to Unique Structures Post Water Damage
Maintaining a historic site requires many resources. When something damages or threatens to harm the integrity of such locations, immediate action is required. Sometimes, however, the damage is not truly evident until after it has already occurred.
When a historic site in Concord has developed commercial water damage, it is imperative that all signs of the loss be removed. SERVPRO has the know-how to complete any size job, in any setting imaginable, including historical ones that need to be restored to a specific time-period. We know that your site needs to remain authentic, not only for aesthetic reasons, which are relevant to visiting guests but also for continued registry inclusion.
Water damage can affect historic buildings and sites in similar ways to modern buildings and homes, and also in ways that are unique to the historic sites that remind our youth of their heritage in a unique, hands-on, tangible manner. Because of the requirements of many sites to remain authentic in areas that are not typically visible, as well as those areas that are, we always stay in close contact with administrators of such places. We want to assure you that we understand that these locations are special, and irreplaceable, to our country.
A major aspect of removing water damage is to stop any additional water from entering the site and creating future damage. We can take any contents at the site to a safe and dry location, mitigating or preventing harm to these items.
If anything within the contents is already damaged, we can work with you to determine the best course of action for each type. SERVPRO's IICRC certified technicians are trained to clean under unique condtions such as leather items like saddles might need to be cleaned of mold but have any patina left in place, documents and books may need to be dusted off and vacuumed of dust and other debris, and clothing may need to be simply aired out in the sun. However, at all times, we make it a point to listen to our customers about how to proceed.
SERVPRO of Marlboro / Concord knows the climate can be harsh in our area, and that it can bring unique challenges to any location when it comes to water damage. Call us at (978) 486-9868, any time, day or night, weekends and holidays included, as we are always available.

Does Your Marlboro/Concord Home Have A Mold Problem?
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Mold remediation reduces the mold spores count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise "mold removal" and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is not true. Consider the mold facts:
- Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
- Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home or business through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
- Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
- Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
- Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
- Even higher than normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.
If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Spring Flood Tips
Spring snowmelt often leads to flooding conditions in Massachusetts. This year’s record snowfall could make the spring thaw even wetter. These tips will help reduce the impact spring floods have on you and your property.
Prepare in advance with a SERVPRO® Emergency Ready Profile® (ERP). Our convenient mobile app stores all your utility and emergency response information in one place, so you can access this information from your smartphone or computer.
Watch for Pooling Water
Look for places around your property where water pools, and channel it away from buildings. Make sure gutters and downspouts are clear of debris and they are directing water as intended.
Maintain Sump Pump
If you have a sump pump, check to be sure it is operational before water starts rising. Consider a back-up generator to ensure your pump works when you need it most. Contact your insurance agent to add coverage in case your sump pump fails.
Raise Storage Goods
Use shelving and/or pallets to keep storage items off the floor to reduce the impact of small floods. In many situations, raising boxes just a few inches will be enough to keep storage goods above the water line.
Cut Power if Necessary
As rising water approaches the level of electrical outlets, you risk having a live current flow through all the water. Cut the power if you can safely do so without standing in water. Otherwise, evacuate and contact an electrician to cut the power before you go back in for recovery.
Keep Storm Drains Clear
If you see water pooling around a storm drain, the drain may be clogged with debris. Clearing the debris will help keep the water flowing away from your neighborhood.
Consider Flood Insurance
Homeowners insurance will not cover floods; you must purchase a separate policy for flood protection. When all else fails, flood insurance will provide you the means to respond to a catastrophic flooding event.
Be Aware on the Road
Be careful when driving during spring storms, especially when you hear flash flood warnings. Never drive into fully submerged roadway. The water surface will be at the same level as the pavement you can see. This view can deceive you into thinking the water is shallow because you cannot see how the road dips under the surface.
When a flood happens, you need to act fast to dry out any wet items, particularly structural materials like walls and flooring. Call SERVPRO® of Marlboro/Concord at 978-369-8003 or SERVPRO® of Nashua/Merrimack at 603-889-2311 to extract water and mitigate any mold growth. Our franchise professionals have the training and experience to make flood damage “Like it never even happened.”
Be prepared by winterizing your home.
Even if it's not necessary this year, there's never a bad time to be prepared. Winterize your home now before it becomes a burden on your budget.
In lieu of the light snowfall we’ve had this year, it’s easy to think the worst is over; but it is imperative that you don’t let your guard down and pass up the opportunities to winterize your home during the coldest months. Frozen pipes and ice dams, among other things, such as severe drafts or even ill-maintained heating supplies, could lead to thousands of dollars in repairs or even wasted energy. In this entry I will go over some tips and tricks to help keep your home, as well as your wallet, secure.
One culprit for those high energy bills in the winter is one that can’t be seen, drafts. Identifying drafts isn’t always simple, but there are a few different ways to find all the faulty spots in your home that are letting all your warm air out.
The first is something referred to as the incense test. It’s very simple, light an incense stick, and while carefully avoiding any flammable materials, make your way around your home, carefully watching the thin trail of smoke. If there is a draft nearby, you should be able to recognize the difference in how the smoke moves. Another method of draft-checking is to stand on the inside of your home with a candle, as someone on the opposite side tries to blow air in using something along the lines of a hair dryer, or, if available, a leaf blower. If there is any area where air could escape, you should see the candle light be shook by the passage of air.
Remember to check anywhere two materials meet. Such as corners around chimneys, where pipes and wires exit the walls, and along the foundation. Albeit tedious, being thorough is the only guarantee that you’ll be able to find every seam, gap, crack, or crevice where a vacuum can be created, and warm air can be lost.
Once located, this problem can be remediated in a variety of ways. Each method will have its time and place, so discretion is advised. There’s no need to go overboard when a simple draft snake can keep the air from escaping your home. Applying a window insulation kit, coupled with the use of draft snakes, can have a meaningful impact on your energy consumption this year. For a more long term solution, consider caulking, weather stripping windows and doors, or even perhaps replacing your current windows with storm windows; which excel at reducing drafts and can help a household increase its energy efficiency. There’s never a poor time to perform this maintenance, as these actions can also benefit you in the warmer seasons by keeping the cool air inside.
Keeping the warm air inside will only help so much, though. Maintaining your heating unit is imperative in the winter, as the heavy use can leave it looking worse for wear. The filter in your heating unit should be replaced monthly, at the very least. A dirty filter will greatly hinder your heaters ability to properly function, impairing its range of heat and potentially causing a fire under constant use, and duress. Permanent filters are another option that, although expensive up front, will help you save greatly in the long run.
An electrostatic filter can trap up to 88% of airborne pollen, dust, dirt, bacteria, mold, and even viruses. We at SERVPRO® use HEPA filters in the field, which will filter at least 99.97% of airborne particles. This is your best bet when it comes to air filtration. Beware of products labeled or marketed as “HEPA-like” as they will surely suffer in quality, and when it comes to the wellbeing of those in your home, no expenses should be spared.
However, not all methods of retaining heat require home improvement. Ceiling fans may be regarded as a tool for keeping your house cool, but many ceiling fans have a switch that will reverse the rotation of the fan blades. While a counter-clockwise rotation will push cool air downwards, reversing it to a clockwise rotation can help push warm air that would pool at the ceiling and circulate it. This simple action can help cut energy costs by as much as 1/10th.
Insulation is an invaluable tool in combatting the harsh winter weather. Adding additional insulation between your walls, and making sure your attic floor and basement ceiling are well covered will go far in keeping everything and everyone comfortable without relying on the excessive use of heating instruments. If time is money then every moment that you can turn off your heater is money you’ll be saving. With added insulation, the warm air will remain trapped inside, keeping families happy and costs down.
The duct work in your home is another culprit of lost heat in the winter. Studies show, that anywhere form 10 – 30% of heated air can escape through your air ducts. Having a professional come to your home and properly seal your air ducts could save your household upwards of 150$ every year. Couple this with the aforementioned methods of preserving heat and you are well on your way to having a truly winter-proof home.
One of the two greatest obstacles that people face in these cold months is also one of the most financially and physically damaging: Frozen pipes. As water turns to ice, it expands, which leads to numerous problems, including the bursting of water lines within the home. A simple way of ensuring that you’re safe from being the victim of the weather is to insulate your pipes. You can get pre-slit pipe foam at most hardware stores. Cut it to size and fasten in place with duct tape. Ideally, you should choose the insulation with the highest R-value practical, which is a measure of its heat-blocking power. Pipe insulation is often R-3 or, for batt styles that you wrap around, a stronger R-7.
It is imperative to halt the freezing of pipes before they burst, as a burst pipe will do much more to damage your home then the elements themselves. The ensuing water leak could lead to structural damage of your home’s infrastructure, as well as the microbial growth of mold in the affected area. These problems alone could leave you with a hefty bill for remediation.
Along with freezing pipes, another problem for homeowners in the winter are ice dams. Ice dams occur when the snow and ice melting off your roof is trapped inside by the small “Ice Dam” that forms on the edge of the roof, over the gutters. The water that is trapped behind the ice dam will most likely travel downwards into your home. This can create many problems as the draining water will not only affect the insulation in the attic, and the roof itself, but may also become trapped in the cavities of your walls. This could cause irreparable damage to your home if not swiftly remediated, and is one of the most common causes for SERVPRO workers to be dispatched during this season.
One things that can be done to prevent ice dams is to ensure that as little heat as possible escapes through your roof. Keeping your roof cold will keep the snow from melting as easily, helping to curb the buildup of trapped water. If this isn’t an option, another way to stop the forming of ice dams is to use a snow rake. A snow rake is an aluminum scraper attached to a telescoping pole. Which can be used to remove heavy snow after snowfall. If you can remove the snow before it has a chance to melt, it will have no opportunity to reform into an ice dam.
A more passive way to handle ice dams is with heat cables. Heat cables are resilient wires that you can run in a zigzag pattern across the bottom of your roof, where ice dams would normally form. Take caution, though, as you will need to redirect the flow of water. You should run the heat cable down the gutter and into a GFCI outlet, so as to ensure the gutter is not clogged with ice.
These tasks can seem like an insurmountable financial burden, but there are programs and means to assist you in making your home more hospitable. Federal tax credits can be implemented to help offset the cost of these renovations, upwards of 30% with a standard maximum of 1500$. A list of available local incentives by state can be found at the following url: http://www.dsireusa.org.
