Water Heater

Flood Damage in Marlborough Due to a Faulty Water Heater

If you turn off the power and close the water supply inlet valve to the water heater, you can connect a garden hose to the drain valve at the bottom of the unit and drain it outside or into a drain in the floor (that is lower than the base of the water heater). This will clear out much of the mineral accumulation in the bottom of the tank. If you perform this procedure annually (or perhaps more often if you have “hard water” with a high mineral content) it will help prolong the life of your water heater and reduce the likelihood of an emergency water damage event.

Cupping hardwood floor

SERVPRO Can Help With Water Damage To Your Hardwood Floors

This wet hardwood floor provides a good example of 'cupping'. All standing water was removed from this home, during the relatively short time it remained it seeped between the planks and was absorbed into the wood at the exposed, unsealed edges. This causes the planks to swell at the edges, giving them the concave cup shape you see in the photo. We will dry it using extraction mats, air movement, and dehumidification. Heat can also be applied, but care must be taken in a gradual process to avoid damaging the wood.
